TOY.
To all whom t may concern:
` Be it known that I, WILLIAM MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at 921 N. Broad street, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following` is a l specification.
The invention relates to toys and has for an object to provide a toyv which will afford great amusement, and which being in the nature of a figure is manually operated to effect various dancing steps and the like.
The invention comprehends among other features a toy embodying a iigure simulating the body of a person with suitable apparel draped upon the figure or otherwise arranged thereon, and foot gear, consisting preferably of a pair of boots or shoes, the latter being connected to strings attached to the figure and arranged so that the operator can place the ends of two ngers of the hand in the foot gear, and then by partially concealing the remainder of the hand behind the iigure, with the medial portions of the two fingers exposed from behind the figure, so that the manipulation of the two fingers will result in a. dancing or stepping act.
Although my invention can be made up in the form of a doll or any other grotesque form of toy or gure, l have in this instance illustrated the toy in the nature of a Scottish Highlander, the body of the ligure being formed to simulate the body of a Highlander, with the usual kilts, and also including a pair of boots which are secured to strings attached to the ligure, two of the fingers of the operator being adapted to be inserted in the boots, with medial portions .of the ngers exposed beneath the `k1lts, so

ing of a body 11 formed of pasteboard or some other suitable material, on which a design 12 is lithographed or printed, said design also including a face or head. The lower edge of the body 11 has a skirt 13 or some other suitable apparel attached thereto to extend downwardly below the lowermost portion of the body, and foot gear 14, in this instance shown in the nature of a pair of boots, is attached to a plurality of strings 15 at the lowermost ends thereof, the upper ends of the strings being passed through an opening 16 in the body, and knotted at the ends to prevent accidental removal of the strings from the body.
With this arrangement it will be seen that the boots are spaced from the lowermost part of the skirt, and by reference to Fig. 1 it will be seen that when the operator inserts the ends of two fingers 17 of the hand into the boots, and then partially `conceals the remainder of the hand behind the figure, the medial portions of the operating fingers will be exposed between the boots and the skirt, at the middlejoint of the fingers in relation to the figure said medial portions of the lingers, constituting the knees and lower limbs thereof. With the toy arranged as shown in Fig. 1, it will be seen that by manipulating the two operating fingers, various dancing steps can be simulated to bring about the effect of a dancing Highlander, and this eiiect of course can be very clearly brought out to the amusement of the onlookers, by a little experience in studying the various steps that a Highlander takes in performing the Highland dance or fling, and then employing the same motions to bring about the result desired in the toy described. lt will of course be seen that the length of the exposed lower limbs of the toy can be varied inaccordance with the arrangement of the hand and the operating fingers relative to the body of the figure and the foot gear, and thus various grotesque and amusing dances with the toy can be obtained by manipulation of the operating fingers in the manner mentioned heretofore.
lt will of course be understood that the invention can be employed in various forms; that the figure can be made in the nature of a doll or simulate some other being or person, with a view to providing an amusing device and toy adaptable to the particular type and race of persons who will see the same in action or operate the toy for the desired amusement.
I claim:
1. A toy comprising in combination with a figure body, a skirt attached to the body at the lower part thereof and projecting below the said body, foot gear, and a plurality of strings secured to the body and connected to the foot gear to dependingly support the foot gear beneath the skirt in spaced relation thereto.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a toy comprising a ligure, foot gear, and strings attached to the foot gear and connected to the ligure to dependingly support the foot gear in spaced relation to the gure.
3. In a toy for the fingers of the hand, a hgure, foot gear, and strings connected to the foot gear and to the figure to dependlngly support the foot gear in spaced relation to the figure, the parts being so arranged that a plurality of the fingers of the hand are adapted to have the ends thereof inserted 1n the foot gear, with the remainder of the hand concealed behind the gureso that the intermediate portions of the two fingers Will be lexposed. between the gure and the foot gear.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
WILLIAM MYERS.
