RUSSEL WILSON BRANSON, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF THREE-FOUBTHS '10 MRS. MAYME IBECKER,'OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
CHECK-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Apr. 1, 1919.
Application filed October 12, 1918. Serial No. 257,881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUSSEL W. BRANSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check- Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in check protectors and has for its object to provide a pocket device of the character specified by means of which the monogram of the drawer may be embossed on the check and inked to provide a distinctive mark.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a longitudinal section through the ,improved protector, showing the parts in withdrawn position;
Fig. 2 is a similar View with the protector extended.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the casing, showing the monogram.
The present embodiment of the invention comprises a casing consisting of a body or handle portion 1 and a top 2, the top having threaded engagement with the handle portion, and the said casing may be of any suitable or desired material, as, for instance, hard rubber or the like.
A carriage 3 in the form of a tubular member is mounted to slide in the handle portion of the casing, and this carriage has a radially extending pin 4 which is mounted to move in a slot 5 extending longitudinally of the handle portion. The slot not only permits access to the pin 4 but serves as a limiting member for limiting the movement of the carriage 3.
- A toothed roller 6 is carried by the carriage, the said carriage having longitudinally extending lugs 7 at'that end adjacent to the top or cover 2 of the casing, and a roller 6 is journaled between the lugs. This roller is adapted to engage an ink pad 8 which is held within the handle portion of the casing near the open end, and to roll thereover when the carriage is moved outwardly and inwardly, to ink the points of the roller.
The bottom of the carriage 3 is cut away at the end adjacent to the roller, as shown at 9, to permit the roller to engage the pad and to travel the full length thereof. The arrangement of the pin 4 in the'slot 5 is such that when the pin is at the outer end of the slot the toothed roller may be extended beyond the casing 2 while when the pin is at the inner end of the slot the roller is entirely within the handle portion and at the check with the pattern of the monogram and the perforations will be inked.
In the drawings is shown a manner of mounting the plate, as, for instance, the plate 10 hearing the monogram 11 has connected with each end thereof a ring 12, and these rings are of a size to fit over the body of the pen, as shown. The plate may be carried on a removable cap, in which case it is not necessary to remove the plate from the pen before using said plate.
I claim:
1. A device of the character specified, comprising a casing having a removable cover, and a carriage mounted to move in the casing, said carriage carrying a roller provided with a roughened surface, and the casing having an ink pad over which the roller moves when it is extended beyond the casing, the casing carrying a plane surface provided with a monogram, the letters of which are formed in points or spurs for 00- operating with the roller.
2. A device of the character specified, comprising a casing having a removable cover, and a carriage mounted to move in the casing, said carriage carrying a roller provided with a roughened surface, and the easing having an ink pad overwhich the roller moves when it is extended beyond the easing, said carriage and casing having means for limiting the movement of the carriage in both directions.
3. A device of the character specified,
comprising a casing having a removable cover, and a carriage mounted to move in the casing, said carriage carrying a roller 10 provided with a roughened surface, and the 1 casing having an ink padover which the roller moves when it is extended beyond the casing.
