Description
LM/VEASEY.
Improvement in Sewing-Machine Casters.
N0; 129,629. V Patented July 16, 1872.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. VEASEY, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWING-MACHINE CASTERS. A
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,629, dated July 16, 1872.
Specification describing an Improvement in Sewing-Machine Oasters, invented by J OHN M. VEASEY, of Denver, Arapahoe county, Colorado.
This invention consists of a plate having a caster at one end and at the other end hinged to a footpermanently attached to the leg of a sewing-machine, said plate having a recess in its upper side, into which the foot fits, and said plate being, by means of a hinge, rendered capable of being turned back when the leg is raised, so as to allow the foot to be placed directly on the floor, and thus steady the machine while in operation.
Figure l is a side elevation, showing the plate under the leg; Fig. 2, a side elevation,
showing the plate turned back; andFig. 3 is a perspective view of the plate turned partly back and inverted.
O is the plate, having a hole at one end to receive the caster-shank f of ,the caster A, flanges l at the sides, and lugs d at the other end. The foot a is attached to the bottom of the machine-leg. Said foot has a projection, b, at one end, which, when the foot is placed in the recess K within the flanges l, enters between lugs 01 and is connected therewith by a pivot, 0, so as to form ahinge. A rod, 1', passing through lugs m extending downward from the plate 0, connects the plates in pairs, so that two of them can be worked together. When the sewing-machine is to be used it must be lifted high enough to enable the plate O to be turned back from under each leg, so that when the machine is lowered the feet a rest directly on the floor. On raising the machine the plates can be turned under the feet again. A spring, n, or elastic cord, or other suitable material, connecting the rod 5 and leg or any attachment to the leg, serves to facilitate the movement of the plate 0 when turned either backward or forward.
I claim as my invention- 1 1. The plate O, provided with flanges l and lugs d, in combination with the caster A and the foot to, having projection b, all constructed, arranged, and operating as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination of the subject-matter of the first claim with the rod 2' and elastic cord or spring n, in the manner and for the purpose explained.
JOHN M. VEASEY.
