To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, CLARENCE M. DEASON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carnegie, in the county of Caddo, State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Badge -Holders; and I do hereby declarethe following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 'others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders and particularly to devices for securing badges in place on clothing or hats.

One object of'the present invention is to provide a novel and. improved device whereby the badge of a uniformed employee can be easily and quickly attached to or removed flrom the hat without danger of tearing the Another object is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is permanently carried by the badge so that it will not be lost from the badge.

A further object is to provide a novel and improved device of this character whereby the badge can be attached to or removed from the clothing or hat with a single movement.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the badge applied to a cap such as is worn by trainmen.

Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the hat and 11 the plate which is attached thereto. In each end of the plate there is formed an opening 12- and swaged into said opening is the reduced tubular stem 13 of the fastener. The portion 14 of the fastener which is disposed on the outer face of the plate is formed with a transverse kerf or slot 15, and pivotally mounted in this slot is a small lever 16. In the free end of the lever there is formed a transverse notch 17 and engaged around the button, which forms the outer lip 22 for engagement of the finger-nail to lift the lever out of engagement with the spring ring.

Secured to the inner face of the lever is a curved metal pin 23, said pin being rigidly connected thereto and movable therewith. The pin projects through the reduced stem of the button and against the inner face of the plate.

In the operation of the device, the levers are swung outwardly out of engagement with the rings, the plate pressed against the portions of the cap where the plate is to be attached, and the levers then pressed inwardly and engaged with the spring rings. The curved pins will penetrate the cloth of the cap and dispose their points against the rear face of the plate so that a firm grip is had on the cloth. The spring rings hold the levers against accidental disengagement, thus rendering the plate secure.

Attention is particularly called to the fact that by reason of the rigidly secured pin the attaclnnent of the plate to the cap is accomplished with but a single movement, that of pressing the levers inwardly into engagement with the spring rings.

While I have shown the device as particularly applied to the badge of a cap or hat, I wish it understood that, without any modifications to the invention, or to the badge, the device may be readily applied to badges of policemen, or'other officers, and to medals or other devices which are to be attached to hats or the clothing.

What is claimed is:

1. A fastener comprising a body having a circumscribing groove, a spring ring within the groove, a lever pivoted to the body and provided with a securing pin movable therewith into and out of position to project beyond the face of the body, the lever being adapted for engagement and retention by the spring ring when the lever is in position with the pin projected.

2. A fastener comprising a body having a oircumscribing groove, a, diametrical slot and an axial perforation, a spring ring within the groove, a lever pivoted in the slot and a pin carried by the lever and disposed in the perforation and movable, with the lever, into and out of position to project through the perforation, the lever having a notch in its free end disposed for locking engagement of the ring therewith when the pin is projected. 3; A badge including a plate having an opening therein, a button secured in the opening and having an opening therethrough, said button having a slot, a lever pivotally mounted in the slot, a curved pin rigidly carried by and movable with the lever and through the opening, the lever having a notch in its free end, and a spring ring engaged around the button and resiliently engaging in the notch to hold the lever against movement.
