GEORGE W. STOUT, OF MEBCHANTVILLE, NEV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN VULCANIZED FIBRE COMPANY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE.
' PACKAGE-TIE.
Application filed June 12, 1917.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. STOUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Merchantville, in the county of Camden, State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Package-Tie, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of a novel construction of a package tie having a body portion, which may be constructed of vulcanized fiber, metal, wood or other suitable material possessing the requisite strength andrigidly, said body portion being provided with an extension at one end thereof having inwardly converging outer walls which at their junction with said body are provided with recesses, the opposite end of said body having an inwardly extending oblique slot provided with inwardly converging walls and in a side thereof another inwardly extending shorter oblique slot, and there being an eye between said slots for the reception of the knotted end of the tying cord.
To the above ends my invention consists of a novel construction of a package tie having the distinguishing characteristics hereinafter specifically pointed out in the claims.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same will give in practice satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a package tie embodying my invention showing also a tying cord and a package or bundle wrapped thereby.
Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the package tie seen in Fig. 1, in detached position, showing the manner of engaging the tying cord therewith.
Fig. 3 represents a plan view of my novel package tie with the tying cord removed therefrom.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates my novel construction of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, rain.
Serial No. 174,199.
package tie, the same comprising a body portion 2, which is preferably of circular or similar contour, and is provided with the tongue or extension 3, having the inwardly converging outer walls i, which at their point of junction with the body are provided with the recesses 5.
6 designates an inwardly extending oblique slot, cut or kerf having converging walls, whose terminus 7 is preferably extended to or a slight distance beyond the median line of said body drawn through the extension 3. 8 designates a shorter oblique slot, cut or kerf, which is located in proximity to the extension 3 and is provided with the curved terminal seat or recess 9 for the reception of the free end 10 of the tying cord 11, which is inserted through the eccentrically located hole 12 and provided with a knot 13.
The manner of using my invention will be apparent from Figs. 1 and 2, it being apparent that the tying cord 11 after having been wrapped or looped around the package or bundle 12. may be tied by having its free end drawn within the obliquely extending longer slot 6 and thence passed around one of the recesses 5, its free end being then drawn into the shorter oblique slot, cut or kerf 8, as indicated in Fig. 2, whereupon the package will be securely tied and said free end 10 cannot be disengaged by an accidental pull.
If desired, said free end 10 can be wrapped or looped once or twice around the converging walls 4: of the extension 3, and it will .be apparent that other ways of using my device may be employed, if desired.
It will now be apparent that I have devised a novel and useful construction of a package tie, which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description, and while I have in the present instance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof which will give in practi-ve satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is
1. A package tie, comprising a plate or body, an extension on one end thereof pro vided with inwardly converging outer walls, an inwardly extending oblique slot located in said body at the end opposite to said extension, .and a second shorter oblique slot located in a side of said body at a point nearer said extension, said body having an eye located eccentrically therein out of alinement with said extension and intermediate e of said oblique slots.
recesses at their point of junction with said body, a slot having inwardly converging walls and its inner terminus located at a point slightly beyond the median line of said body passing through said extension, said body having an eye and a second obliquely extending shorter slot located above said eye provided with inwardly converglng walls for the reception of the freeend of said tying cord, the longer of said slots having its inner terminus located out of alinement with said extension.
