structions, combinations, and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object ot' my invention is to provide a smoking pipe embodying` a. novel nicotin collecting vessel and an insertible smoke cooling member including a spiral groove whereby the nicotin is received in the vessel and the -smoke is cooled while passing V.through the groove.
Another object of the invention is to provide a smoking pipe including the elements and features above enumerated, the construction ot' the pipe permitting ready disassembling for cleaning.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following specification, ret'- erence being had to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of a pipe illustrating the nicotin collecting vessel in section and the smoke cooling member in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2--2 et Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is an inverted perspective view of the nicotin receiving vessel.
In carrying` out one of the features ot my invention, it will be observed that I provide a cylindrical plug 1. The plug 1 has a spiral groove 2 formed in its periphery or Surface as illustrated in Fig. 1. The cylindrical plug 1 is insertible in the bore 3 ot the pipe stem A passage (i establishes' communications between the bowl 5 and the bore 3 of the Stem 4, a shoulder 7 being formed at the juncture of the passage 6 and bore 3 adjacent which the cylindrical plug 1 rests when the parts are assembled.
The. outer endot the spiral groove 2. of the cylindrical plug 1 terminates coaxially of the plug 1 and is internally screw threaded as indicated at S. A screw block J is screwed into engagement with the screw threaded portion S and includes an enlarged threaded portion on which the mouth piece, i0 of the pipc is screwed. 'lhe .screw block 9 has a Speaeication of Letters Patent.
)i which is integral with thevv Patented Jan. 14, 1919.
Serial No. 156,351.
'with the spiral groove 2 as plainly shown in the drawings7 the smoke bore in the screw vplug 9 also communicating with the bore l0 in the mouth piece 10 when the parts are assembled as shown in Fig, 1.
A nieotin receiving vessel 11 is located at the bottom of the bowl 5 adjacent to the passage 6. The vessel 11 includes a drumlike upper portion 12 which has a plurality ot' -perforations 13. That portion of the vessel 11 adjacent to the drum-like upper portion l2 is ot' a larger diameter than Athe main drum-like portion thereof. It will be seen that the portion 12 is of such dimensions that it snugly engages the lower por tion of the bowl 5. The portion 14C of the vessel 11 has a laterally extending neck 15 which is adapted to be projected into the passage fl. The neck 15 has anupwardly curved beak 16 lwhich is projected into the inner end of the spiral. groove il ot the cylindrical plug 1. For the purpose et accomplishing the connections above referred to, the spiral groove 2 terminates coaXially of the cylindrical plug 1 at the place adjacent the connection with the beak 16.
The construction ot the pipe having been explained, the method of assembling the parts is as follows: Assuming the various parts above described are to be disasiembled, the cylindrical plug 1 is inserted in the bore 3 of the pipe stem 4. The nicotin receiving vessel 11 is now placed within the bowl 5 of the pipe and adjusted until the beak 16 enters the inner end of the spiral groove Z adjacent to the shoulder 7.
The connections betweenthe receptacle 11 and the cylindrical plug 1 having been made.-
the mouth piece 1() is screwed onto the screw block 9 until it tightly binds against the adjacent end of the pipe stem 4i. It will be observed that the upwardly curved beak 16 frorns the binding member which holds the cylindrical plug i and the mouth piece 10' against accidentaldisplacement.
In the use ot the pipe the nicotin from the tobacco contained in the bowl 5 will be col'- lec-tcd in the vessel. It will be noted that the beak 16 branches from the neck 15 at. a. place adjacent.` the upper portion thereof. lVhen it becomes necessary to oleanthe pipe. the mouth piece 10 is removed so that the cylindrical plug member may subseine' a hollow stein tures formed therein, fuse to pass into said vessel, a neck extend- .quently be removed. The veesel ll is then taken from the bowl by turning it in such a I nanner that the beak'l disengagee the ing from said dru1n-like lower portion in a plane below the drum-like upper portion, an 20 upwardly curved beak formed upon the outer end of said neck in a plane above the bottom of said neck, and means carried within said hollow stein and engaging said beak for holding said nicotin receiving vessel against accidental displacement, said means bearing upon said shoulder for iimly holding said vessel and said means in respective position.
In testimony whereof I aliX my signature 30 in presence of two Witnesses.
