PAUL CAINES HUNTER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY-PIN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented ea. 15, 1918.
Application filed March 22, 1917. Serial No. 156,558.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL C. HUNTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Safety-Pin, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to safety pins and has for an object the provision of an improved arrangement wherein two penetrating points are used.
Another object in view is to proVide a safety pin having a plurality of points arranged at spaced intervals.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of a safety pin disclosing an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a slightly modified construction.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates what may be termed the frame of the pin which is made up from a single wire and formed with a connecting bar 2, diagonal bars 3 and 4 entwined or interlocked at 5 and finally merging into diagonal bracing bars 6-and 7. The bars 6 and 7 are bent at 8 and 9 for forming pin members 10 and 11, the points of said pin members extending into protecting and holding clips 12 and 13, these clips being bent around part of bar 2 and the sections 14 and 15 so as to be firmly held in position, said bent around sections merging into retaining tongues 16 and 17 for preventing accidental disengagement of the pin members 10 and 11.
In Fig. 2 a slightly modified structure is shown in which complete turns 18 and 19 are provided for giving a more resilient effeet to the pin members 10 and 11.
What I claim is:
A safety pin comprising a body merging into a pair of pointed pin members, said body having a connecting bar merging into sections extending at right angles thereto and a plurality of diagonally arranged bracing members interlocking at a central point and merging into said pin members, and sheet metal members wrapped around said sections and part of said bar and overlapping the ends of said pin members for protecting said ends.
PAUL OAINES HUNTER.
