To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT DUNSEATH,
a citizen of the United States, and a resi-.
dent of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Collapsible Blocks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
This invention relates more particularly to a hoisting block of a class disclosed in my Patent No. 1,146,411, dated July 13, 1915.
The invention has for its object primarily to provide a block adapted ,to be employed with a cable or line for hoisting and lowering articles especially of heavy Weights to various heights, and which is of a collapsible type whereby its parts may be separated to allow the device to be easily transported, besides allowing the device to be enlarged or reduced in size as Well as permitting parts of the device When damaged to be replaced with new parts. This is accomplished mainly by providing two or more corresponding plates, each having one or a number of spaced openings, and the openings of each plate are in register with the openings of the other plates. In each series of the registered openings is a removable bolt, and each bolt is composed of a like number of sections formed so as to be detachably connected to allow the bolts to be increased and reduced in lengths as well .as providing spaced annular grooves at the joints of the sections so that plates may be removably mounted in the grooves and so that sheaves may be removably mounted on one'of the bolts between the plates.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hoisting block ofa simple and eflicient construction, and which is susceptible of being made in any desired shape and size so as to combine durability.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a partof this specification in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, the said invention being more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims at the end of the description.

lhe collapsible block has two sideplates 10 and 11, and as occasion requires forms of the block may be provided having one or a suitable number of intermediate plates 'as 12, 13, 14. These plates may be of any shape and size according to the size of the block desired, and all of the plates are of corresponding formations. Through the centers of all the plates are registered holes 15, and through the lower parts of all the plates are registered holes 16, while through the upper parts of all the plates are also registered holes 17.
In the series of registered holes 15 is a bolt 18, while in theseries of registered orifices 16 is a secured bolt 19, and in the series of registered holes 17 is a third bolt 20. The bolts may be similar in diameters or the bolts may vary in diameters, and when a block is assembled with only two end plates, or when 'a block is assembled having the end plates, besides having a number of the'intermediate plates the three bolts are of corresponding lengths according to the size of the block provided. Each of the bolts is composed of a key section 21, and a like number of corresponding sections, as 22, 23, 24. The key section 21 of eachbolt has a cylindrical axle portion 25, and projecting in alinement in opposite directions from the ends of the axle portion of each key section are cylindrically-shaped lugs or extension members 26 and 27 These lugs of the key section of each bolt are considerably less in diameters than the axle portion of the bolt, and the free end parts of these lugs are exteriorly threaded, as at 28 and 29, respectively. Each of the sections 22, 23,24 of each bolt has also a cylindrical axle portion 30, and protruding from one end of each axle portion is a cylindrically-shaped lug or extension member 31having its free end part exteriorly threaded, as at 32, while in the center of the second end of each axle portion is an interi'orly threaded recess 33. The axle portions of the sections of each of the bolts 21, 22, 23, 24 are similar in diameters as sen as being or similar lengths. The
threaded lugs of the sections of each bolt are also of corresponding diameters and lengths,
and the threaded recesses 33 of the sections 22, 23 24: of each bolt are of diameters to allow the threaded lugs to be screwed thereinto. Through each of the threaded lugs or each section of each bolt may be an aperture 33 to permit a wrench or other implement to be used for conveniently screwing the section to one of the othersections, and n this manner each of the bolts 18, 19, 20 1s extensibly formed so that the bolts may be reduced or increased in lengths for provid ing blocks of various sizes. Moreover, by
threading'only ortions of the lugs of the sections of each olt the sections ofeach bolt when detachably connected will be spaced apart to provide'eachbolt with one or more. annular grooves, as 34, eiicept when a block is assembled having bolts formed by using in each bolt only the key section 21.
' When a block is provided having theside plates 10 and 11 with a numberof the intermediate plates, as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 5, each of the three bolts is'formed by passing through the holes 15, 16, 17 of one of the side plates 10 and 11 one ofthe threaded lugs-otthe key sections 21 of the bolts. On
the axle portion 25 of the key section of the bolt 18 is disposed a sheave or grooved'pul le 35 so as to freely revolve on the bolt. A block of the character described, comprising spaced plateseach having a hole in register W1th the hole of the other plates, a bolt removably disposed in the registered holes of the plates and the bolt being composed of two detachably connected axle porandthe holes of each plate being in regis-- ter with the holes of the other plates, a. bolt removably disposed in" each series of the registered holes of the plates and each bolt being composedof two detachably connected axle portions between the plates and each axle portion having a lil'gremovabl inserted in the holes of theside plates, an a sheave freely revoluble oneach axleportion of one ofthebolt's. In a block of the character described, a bolt composed of a key section having a cylindrical axle portion and having two threaded lugs pro ecting in opposite directions from opposite parts of the axle 01'- tion, and a separate interiorly threade recessed axle portion screwed on one of the lugs of the first named axle portion so that both of the axle portions are in spaced relation, said second axle portion having a threaded lug projec'tingin an opposite direction and in alinement with the second lug of the first mentioned axle portion.
6. In a block of the character described, a bolt composed of a key section having a cylindrical axle portion, including two 40 threaded lugs of less diameters than the axle portion projecting in lo posite directions from the ends of the cylin rical portion, and
a plurality of separate-corresponding sec- I tions, each having a cylindrical axle portion, including a threaded recess in one end of each axle portion as well as having a threaded lug of less diameter that the axle portion protruding from its second end and said recesses and lugs being of relative sizes Whereby the recessed axle portion of each of the recessed sections mayberemovably screwed on the lug of one of the other sections so that all the axle portions will be spaced apart.
