The present invention is directed to improvements in axles, and has for its object to construct devices of this characterin such a manner that the spindles may be readily removed when worn and replaced with perfect ones. View, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which: 7
Figure l is an end View of the axle; Fig. 2, is a side View of a portion of the axle, and Fig. 3, a sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings 11 indicates the axle which is I-shaped in cross section. A recess 12 is provided in the end of the axle for receiving the Web 13 of the section 14:, said section hav- Gopies otthis patent-may be obtained for 11 oneither side of therecess 12 to With this and other objects in ing its outer end provided with a circular head 15 which latter is provided with grooves 16 and 17 intersecting at their centers so as to receive ribs 18 formedupon the circular head 19 of a spindle 20. Bolts 21 are passed through the heads 15 and 19 so that they may be readily disconnected should the spindle become worn or broken. Bolts 22 are engaged-through the section 14 and the axle said section to the axle.
What is claimed, is Incombination with an axle end formed of an I-beam the end portion of the web of which is provided witha longitudinal recess opening through its end, a section having an I-shape cross section the web of which 1s detachably. engaged in the recess with its flanges disposed between the flanges 1 of the axle end, securing members extending through-the flanges of the section and the web of the axle end section and the web of the axle end, and a spindle secured to each section.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the-presence of two signatures.
