and 'I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the referencenumerals marked thereon.
My invention has for its purpose to afford an improved construction in shipping boxes of the general type made from heavy cardboard, paper, fiber, or other flexible material, in order to afford a structure which can be reasonably and easily manufactured and assembled, and which at the same time possesses the necessary characteristics of strength and durability to withstand the usual wear and tear, without likelihood of its breaking, or of the contents suffering damage. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

The structure of the present embodiment comprises a body which, includes a bottom 1, sides 2 and top portions 3, which overlap one another when the box is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, and the body may be formed of either one or more pieces as may be preferred.
The body is held together by end portions, each of which includes an end wall 4, that is inset from the end of the body portion. In-
' tegrally attached to the end Wall 4 are inner walls 5 which lie ad'acent to the inner surfaces of the body, while 6 designate outer walls integrally connected with the inner walls 5, and adapted to lie adjacent to the outer surfaces of the body as shown in Fig. 3. The inner and outer walls 5 and 6 are both coextensive with the edges of the end wall 4 to which they are attached, thereby affording efficient bracing and holding means for the walls of the body. Theend wall 4 is held in place by securing devices in the form of staples or rivets 7,wh1ch pass through the outer and inner walls 5 and 6, and the intermediate portions of the body, and in order to hold the parts more securely, particularly at the corners, the alternate outer walls 6 are provided with integral tabs or extensions 8, which overlie the ends of the adjacent outer walls, and are attached thereto by the securing devices already referred to. I claim as my invention: I
1. An article of manufacture, comprising a box having a body portion comprising bottom, side, and top members made of a single folded piece of. material the ends of which overlap to reinforce each other along the middle of the top, end pieces each of which I comprises an end wall having integral inner wall members adjacent the inner surfaces of the body portion and integral outer Walls adjacent the outer surfaces of the body portion, said outer walls being provided with reinforcing extensions overlying the ends of the adjacent outer wall, and having said inner and outer walls and their extensions secured to the body portion and to each other by suitable'fastening means.
2.
