CALENDAR.
Application led September 18, 1915.
' To @ZZ 107mm t may concern:
Be it known that I, kTAMME RENKEN TAMMEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Parkersburg, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have invented an Improvement in Calendars, of which the following is a specification.
The invention is an improvement in daily calendars of the perpetual type.
The details of construction, arrangement and operation of parts composing the calendar are as hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:-
Figure 1 is mainly a front elevation of the calendar, a portion being broken away and shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a plan View of the chart, which is especially adapted for use in connection with the several other gures.
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the back of the casing of the calendar.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fio'. 4.
Fig, 6 is an enlarged section on line 6--6 of Fig. 4. Y
In the drawing, more particularly in Figs. 1, 2, 4, the numeral 10 indicates the base of the calendar, to which is secured a casing preferably of rectangular formation, and opening inwardly toward said base, access being had to the interior of the casing through a door 12 formed in the base 10. The front of the casing 11 is provided with a large sight opening 13, through which the chart 15 is visible.
A horizontally adjustable frame 16-see Fig. .1 -is mounted in the casing 11 and comprises vertical side members 17 con nected by a laterally extending horizontal cross piece 18. A mat 19 is secured medially of its longitudinal edges to the cross piece 18 and is adapted to have the chart 15 interposed between it and the front of the casing. The upper and lower ends of the side members 17 have secured thereto small metallic substantially U-shaped bearing members 20, the upper members having mounted therebetween a roller 21 while the lower members have journaled therein the rollers 22 and 23, the latter being arranged adjacent the lower edge of the mat 19. The chart 15 is originally wound upon the upper roller 21 and passes between the mat 19 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 4, 1918. Serial No. 51,485.
and the front of the casing, over the roller u tension 24 which is adapted to be projected` through an opening 25 in the casing 11 by adjusting the frame 16 toward the left as shown in Fig. 4. A handle may then be mounted upon said end 24 and the chart rewound upon the roller.
Means are provided for retaining the frame 16 in proper position when operating the chart and guiding said frame 16 in the casing 11 and includes a rod 26 extending longitudinally along the bottom of the casing and through a notch 27 formed in the lower end of the adjacent side member 17 of the frame 16, the ends of said rod being mounted in the walls of the casing. It will thus be seen that the frame is securely retained in its proper position within the casing and that the same is effectively guided in its horizontal movement longitudinally of said casing.
As shown in Fig. 1, pockets 40 and 41 are formed in the front of the casing longitudinally of the top and bottom edges thereof, the pocket 40 being of a greater width than the pocket 41 for a purpose which will presently appear. The top of the casing is provided with a slot 42 through which projects a finger grip 43 to the inner end of which is secured a slide 44, as shown in Fig. 1, which has printed' thereon indicia representing the months of the year, the first six months being arranged above the last sixv months, in order to shorten the length of the slide sufficiently to enable the same to be moved back and forth within the pocket 40. These indicia are visible through a small opening 45 formed in the front and adjacent the top of the casing 11 and the slide is of such a width relative to the width of the pocket 40 as to permit of the same being pushed down or pulled up in order to expose the upper and lower rows of indicia. The bottom of the casing 11 is also provided with a slot 46 similar to the slot 42 and has projecting therethrough a finger grip 47 to the inner end of which is secured a slide 48 having indicia thereon representing the days of the week, said indicia being visible through an opening 49' formed in the :front of the casing.v This slide is also adapted to be moved longitudinally o the pocket 4:1 by means of vhen the calendar is shifted from dayvtr The casing 11, is provided with a large sight opening 50-see Fig. 1, through which arev visible, the numerals on the chart 51. The latter as shown in Fig. 3 comprises an elongated strip having numerals ranging from 1 to 31 indicating the diierent days of the month, and by winding and rewinding the chart 51 upon the rollers 21 and 22 and shifting the frame 16 in the direction of .the arrows shown upon said chart, each numeral thereon may beibrought into register with the sight opening 50.
What is claimed is 1. A calendar comprising a casing having sight openings therein and pockets eX- tending longitudinally thereof, slides` adjustably mounted in said pockets and containing -indicia representing the days of the vveekV and months of the year, and a chart for vertical and horizontal adjustment in said casing. f f f 2. A calendar comprising a casing having sight openings therein and pockets extending longitudinally thereof, slides adjustably mounted in said pockets and containing indicia representing the days of theweek and months of `the year, a frame adjustable horizontally in said casing, rollers mounted insaid frame, and a chart wound upon said rollers.
3. A calendar comprising a casing hav- Copies of this patentamayjhe obtained .for
the finger grip 4:7
lng side openings therein and pockets eX- tending longitudinally thereof, slides adjustably mounted in said pockets and containing indicia representing the days of the week and months of the year, one of said "slides being capable of both vertical and longitudinal movement, and a chart for vertical and horizontal adjustment in said casmg.`
4L. In a calendar comprising a casing having. sight openings therein arranged one above they other, a trame adjustable horizontally in said casing and comprising vertical side' members having their ends disy connected, a horizontalv cross piece journaled to said side members intermediate the ends thereof, U-shaped bearings fitting over the upper and ,lower ends. of said side members, the lower bearings being provided with alinednotches yin the bottoms thereof, a guide member in the lower end of said` casing and engaging in said notches whereby to guide said frame during its adjustment', an upper roller mounted in said upper bearings, a pair of rollersv mounted vbetween said lower bearings, a chart carried by saidv rollers and. containing indicia representing the months of the years and days ofn themonths and visiblel throughV said sight openings,
and` a mat Asecured to said cross piece and adjacent said sight openings and adapted t to have said chart interposed therebetween.
