LUNCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28, IWLO.
Application filed January 13, 1917. Serial No. 142,186.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLns R. H. VIS- sorrnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lunch- Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to lunch boxes for use by workmen, school children and the like and especially to those adapted to contain and carry a temperature retaining vessel and the specific object of my invention is to provide a holding means for the temperature retaining vessel which will be a part of the lunch box, simple, strong and cheap in construction and which will securely hold the vessel in position and from which it may be quickly and easily removed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a View, partly in section, of my improved lunch box; Fig. 2 an end sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 a detail sectional view of the structure of Fig. 1 on the line 3-3.
The box comprises a body 1 and a top 2 hinged or otherwise secured thereto, with the fastening means 3-3 to hold the box shut, and a handle 4: for carrying.
At one end 5 of the top a ledge is located, the form shown in the drawing comprising a strip 7 pivoted to the end and carrying the curved piece 7 at its free end, and formin one member of the vessel carrier. The swing of the piece 7 enables the vessel to center itself when in place.
The other member of the carrying device consists of a spring piece or clip 8 fastened to the top, preferably by the same rivets holding the handle loop 4' in place.
The temperature retaining vessel 9 has the usual cylindrical body, curved shoulder and cup top which is screwed to the body.
The free ends of the clip 8 are corrugated in counterpart of the threads in the vessel cap so that when the clip engages the cap the threads will interlock with the corrugations and prevent endwise movement of the vessel.
In use the base of the vessel is placed on the ledge 7 and the cap base is pushed into the spring clip whereby the vessel is firmly held and suspended inside the top of the lunch box yet it can be easily removed by pulling out the top and drawing it off the ledge.
This device obviates the usual straps which have heretofore been used to hold the vessel in the top of the lunch box and holds it firmly without rattling.
I claim 1. In a lunch box, a top secured thereto, an arm pivotally secured to one end of the top, a ledge secured to the free and of the arm adapted to engage the base of a vessel,
a spring clip secured to the top adjacent to the other end and adapted to partially encircle and engage the top portion of the vessel.
2. In a lunch box a top secured thereto, a ledge secured adjacent to one end thereof adapted to engage the base of a vessel, a spring clip secured to the top adjacent to the other end, the free ends being corrugated and adapted to engage and partially encircle the top of the vessel.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in. the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES R. H. VISSGHER.
Witnesses HELEN TwoMEY, Rosn CALLAHAN.
