Application filed December 17. 1917'.
the King of Rouinania. resident of New York. county of New York. and State of New York. aiul Puimr Kinvns. a citizen of the United States. resident of New York, count) of New York. and State of New York, have. invented certain new and useful improvements in Automatic Pipe-Threading Lubricators. of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to improvements in lubricators and particularly to types used in connection with pipe-cutting apparatus in which hand operated dies are. caused to rotate about the end of the pipe to be threaded.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device which may be attached to the die holder so as to rotate with the frame, the device carrvinca quantity of liquid lubricant in such manner that the. same is dispensed in controllable quantities as the device rotated about the pipe.
A further object is to provide means whereby the lubricator caused to operate in an effective manner. whether cutting right or left hand threads.
A further object is to provide means whe reb v the quantit) oi lubricant may be increased at will by operation of a hand pump combined with the apparatus.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing. forming a material "part of this disclosure and in which Figure l is a top plan view. 01 a lubricator the upper portion being removed.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same. taken on line Q2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view. taken on lihe 3-3 of Fig. 24 and Fig. i is a side elcvational view. looking in another plane "from that shown in Fig.
In the drawings the numeral 10. indicates the pipe or tube being o 'ieratcd upon the dies or cutters 11. held in a ring! 19. provided with operating handles 13, the same reprer Specification of Letters Patent.

senting a conventional type ot die stock. The invention comprises a hollow cylindrical casing 15. havin a reduced lower end 16, below which extends a conical tube 18. having formed at its sides a pair of lugs 19. secured by screws 20, to the die stock 12. The casing 15 has an. enlarged band 22, containing an internal screw-thread to which is fitted a hollow cover 23. having a raised corrugated ring 24, so that it may be conveniently turned to screw thecover into operative position on the casing 17 Formed internally of the casing" 15. is a, flanged ring- 26, upon which is secured a disk 27. the same acting as a fixed cover for the casing. Rising: from opposite sides of the disk 27. which is held to the flange 26.
by means of screws 28. are raised lugs -10; containing pivot screws 31. which are held in an adjusted position by means of lock nuts 32. the points of the screws entering into the flat sides of a scan-spherical weight 3%. so the same is free to swing thereon.
An oft-set perii'iheral groove is formed in the weight 3+. and passing centrally therethrough. is an adjusting screw 37. the point of which is set in the groove 35. to an adjustable depth. so as to bear upon the upper surface of a lever 33. pivoted in a bracket 39, fixed upon the disk 27. the tree end of the lever extending transversely across the casing.
Mounted upon another bracket 40. fixed on the disk 27. is a lever ll. having a forked end 42, engaged with an oval plate .1. while the outer ends of the lever 41. has a turned end 4-5. extending below the lever so that as the latter is raised or lowered. motion is transmitted to the fork i2.
A. rod 47, is secured to the plate 11 .4. the rod being suhstantiallv central with the casing 15. and extending down through a sleeve 48, formed with the disk 27. through a packing l9. held in place by a packing ring 50, belowwhich is a coiled compression spring the lower end of which abuts against a collar 53. screw-threaded on the, lower end of the rod l7. which terminates in a conical head adapted to control the opening through the tube 18.
It is to he understood that the casing 15, is adapted to hold a liquid lubricant which flows out through the tube 1.8. when the conical valve is in it raised position and the casing vertically shove the Work as indicated in Fig. 2, air entering through an opening (ll in the cover and passing through ,3 on opening 56 controlled by a pin 57., rigidly set in the plate In order to control the direction of movement of the Weight 3% there is secured at one of its sides a gear 80, engegeelile with a pair of opposed springs 1e 61 secured to the inner sides oi the hand levers 52 pivoted in brackets rising from the disk if} so that by removing the co "er J9 either of the spr'ogs may in operative position With res' eeu gear, While the other obviously will be moved outward so as to prevent Contact.
li' it be des ed to increase the flow of the lubricent, an sir pump 65 is used, the same being provided Wit" in. operating handle i6 e z tending upward through a knurled not 64, secured an citet projection 68, of the one 15 end having :1 communicating 1 bill as the knob or handle air is forced inwardly to the cesthe lubricant downward T 1 n '4 h J. n opei o tiol to the die stool; in.
the casing 15 being seeuree the lev rs inoved into ct with the gear so that either eib liend thread irony be out, it obvious lust as the device is rotated upon an ez'is COI'ZESPOnCllHg w th the pipe 1 tlnrt the Weight 3% moves from side to s deso as to cause the screw 37 to not upon the lever allowing it to raise and fall its PC-1.113. ion operate the roe closing the opening through v it ivill be seen that a res-("lily 1'," ole quantity of lubricant dispensed innnedietelv odiacent to is cont oiled by operating the screw ic' ll work equally id threads.
of co in a vertical s prevented, and econoinicontrolling said valve.
in pe thread cutter lubricetor, the combination With a hollow casing having an outlet closely adjacent to the pipe to be out, and cover removably engaged with said easing, of a valve movable reciprocatively in said casing adapted to control the opening in said outlet, a disk fitted to the upper portion of said casing, lugs formed with said disk, :1 Weight pivoted in said lugs, a lever operated transversely in said casing, a screw in said "weight contractiblo with. said whereby its movement may be adjusted 21 second lever operated by the first nnnied lever connections between said second lever and. said Valve, means for the admission of to said casing, means for controlling said air admission, and a hand operated pump in said casing whereby air may he forced interiorly thereof.
5, in a pipe thread lubricator, the cone hination with ii hollow tubular casing, having a conical outlet, and a cover suited to the upper portion of said casing, of a valve movable in said casing adapted to control the passage through said outlet, a weighted billll'lllfii'lcitl pendulum pivoted in said casing, 21 lever contractilole with said penduluni connections between said lever and said valve, and means in said casing permit ting the semi-rotation of said pendulum in eillier of two directions.
In testimony whereof We have aflixed our signetnijee MORRIS MALLUVE. JACOB GREENBERG. PHHJP REEVES.
