Description
w. H. 1. DOWNEY.
AERIALTOL APPLICATION men JULY 1. 1911.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
WILLIAM H. J. DOWNEY, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
AERIAL TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 9, 1918.
Application filed July '7, 1917. Serial No. 179,166.
1 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that WILLIAM H. J. DowNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Aerial Toys;
- ments of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of th is specification and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a central sectional view.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of the conical hub portion of the soaring plane.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates the propeller of a soaring plane which is provided with a conical shaped hub portion B having a longitudinally formed corrugation D thereon. Said hub portion is provided with a central aperture E which is conical in shape and adapted to receive a conical shaped point F mounted upon the handle H. A cord K is adapted to be wound about the conical shaped corrugated hub and the propeller held upon the point in the manner shown. By quickly unwinding the cord, a rapid rotary motion may be imparted to the propeller and by reason of the curvature and dip of the planes, the propeller will quickly leave the point and ascend into the air and when the momentum given to the propeller-has reached its limit,
the propeller will fall by gravity.
What I claim to be new is: a An aerial toy, comprising a handle with a conical shaped portion terminating at one end in a shoulder and its apex truncated, a propeller having a hollow hub portion from which projects a conical shaped shell adapted to telescope over the conical shaped portion of the handle and resting against said shoulder, the circumference of the shell having ribs extending its entire length and about which a cord is adapted to be wound. In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
