Description

JOSEPH F: wmmeum or nocnns'rnn, NEW YORK.
LEATHElR-TRE ATIN G COMPOSITION.
No Drawing,
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrn F. WINNEUR,
of Rochester, in the county. of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leather- Treating Compositions; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and
exact description of the same. i My invention relates to leather \treatm compositions or restorative solutions, and
has for its specific object to restore the nat-, 4
. ural color and freshen the appearance of gallon solutlon:
leather goods. A more particular object of my invention is to treat tan leather products after they have been exposed to sunlight for a considerable time, thereby-making it pos- Y sible for dealers in shoes or other tan leather articles to restore their original color and make them lookli ke new, after they have been on display for a considerable time, and burned by the effects of the sun.
There is a large financial loss'in thehandling of leather goods generally, and particularly tan leather goods, such as shoes, traveling bags and cases, due to burning or spotting of the leather or collecting of dirt thereon, that renders the goods unfit for sale,
except at a sacrificial price, and it is desirable to providea; cleaning and color restoring solution or pregaration that can be used by dealers and rea ily applied, and the present composition which I am about to describe in detail can be successfully used by applying it with a cloth' overthe surface of the leather. g The essential ingredients that are employed in making the preparations are kerosene, oil of sassafras, "oil of citronella and raw-linseed oil, with which are preferably 4o combined certain other oils to impart a pleasant odor to the solution, although this lastis not indispensable to the completed.
product. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, and according to which I havesecured quite'successful results, I use the following named elements in theproporgive a onetions stated, which. combine to Specification of'lletters Patent.

100 ounces water white kerosene.
3. ounce oil'of Sassafras.
ounces oil of citronella. 9,- ounce oil of Wintergreen. 1- ounce oil ofmirbane. a ounce oil of bircih 11% ounces raw linsee oil.
In the practical useof the solution, it is applied evenly-fiver the-leather and permitted to dry, after which the surface may 5 be rubbed with a soft dry cloth to impart a greater luster to it. ,It is to be understood that the invention is not confined to the exact pioportions or constituent arts above named, as I consider it within t e province ofmy improvement. to cover any leather composition made from kerosene,
oil 'in any proportions found to be effective. The kerosene cleans the surface from dirt, while the citronella oil restores the leather tions' described.
2. A leather treating composition, including kerosene, oilof Sassafras, citronella oil,
