Description

Patented August 16, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
CLEMENT H. PIERCE, OF KILBOURN, WISCONSIN.
COMPOSITION FOR TREATING PIANO PINS AND STRINGS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,499, dated August 16, 1904. Application filed April 21, 1904. Serial No. 204,303. (No specimens.) I
To (all whom it may concern.-
Be it known than I, CLEMENT H. PIERCE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the village of Kilbourn, Columbia county, and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Composition of Matter for Removing Rust from Piano Pins and Strings and Preventing Rust from Forming on Same, of which the following is a specification.
My composition consists of the following ingredients combined in the proportions stated*viz. boiled linseed-oil one pint; beeswax, six ounces; rosin, two ounces; propolis, two ouncesth ese ingredients to be thoroughly mingled by agitation.
In using the above-named composition for the removal of rust the strings or pins should first be Well brushed with a wire brush, then with a bristle brush, rubbing briskly. The composition should be applied and the brush wiped upon a cloth. Then the strings or pins should be brushed with a clean brush, removing most of the composition, and the rust comeswith it. At the same time enough of the composition will remain upon the strings or pins to prevent them from rusting again. To prevent unrusted plano pins or strlngs from rusting, a little of the composition should be applied with a brush.
I am not aware that all or any of the ingredients of my composition have been used either singly or together in any proportion as a rust remover or preventer when applied to piano pins and strings or otherwise.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
l. The herein-described composition of matter consisting of boiled linseed-oil, beeswax, rosin, and propolis, substantially as described and for the purpose aforesaid.
2. The herein described composition of matter for removingrust from piano pins and strings and preventing rust from forming thereon, consisting of boiled linseed-oil, one pint; beeswax, six ounces; rosin, two ounces; propolis, two ounces; substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CLEMENT H. PIERCE.
