. ,citizen of the United States, residing in the i 1 borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Toys, of which the following l is a specification.

At the present time when a greater part of the so-called civilized world is at arms every one, even children, is interested somewhat, at least, in warfare. The object of my present invention is the provision of simple inexpensively constructed toy for the p amusement of children and in carrying out the same I preferably employ a sheet of #suitable material on one surface of which is i pictured a battleship, a fort or otherrepre-` `sentation having armament `of one kind or another, and the sheet suitably provided l2:0` with holes .or apertures representing the mouths of the guns adapted to receive harmi p less toy fuses each so constructed that when lighted at one end it will burn emitting intermittently flashes of light in such a manner as to represent the ring of a gun, and

the invention in the present case relates 1 "more particularly to the toy fuse.

As illustrated in the drawing the toy, as

"a new article of manufacture, comprising `the present invention, is made of a sheet of cardboard, asbestos, paper or other similar material indicated at 10 and having on one surface thereof a representation of a battleship as shown at 11. The desired effect in producing the flashes of light from the fuse. or cartridge is obtained by constructing the fuse of any well `known firework composition, and a slow burning material, this mixture as hereinbe- `fore` statedl being contained in a suitable` paper wrapper to form the fuse or cartridge. The pyrotechnic composition may consist of a nitrate, shellac or sulfur, aluminum or metallic magnesium and nitrate of potash, while the slow burning material employed may be of red gum, kauri dust or brimstone or any other similar material to produce the same results. It will be understood thatl the number and frequency of the flashes of light will depend upon the "quantity of slow burning material added to the pyrotechnic composition.

I claim as my invention:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a flashing toy cartridge consisting of a com.- position of powdered pyrotechnic material and a powdered slow burning substance, and

a wrapper for containing said composition so that when lighted the cartridge burns emitting flashes of light at relatively long intervals. y

2. As a new article of manufacture, a flashing toy cartridge consisting of pyrotechnic powdered composition, a powdered slow burning substance mixed therewith, and a wrapper for containing said pyrotechnic composition and slow lburning substance so that when lighted the cartridge is consumed slowly with the slow burning material igniting the pyrotechnicmaterial at relatively long intervals causing the same to emit intermittent flashes of light. p l
