ALARM-SIGNAL.
Application led April 20, 1917.
To all whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that l, NOAH S'rnB1Nsa citizen of the United States, residino' at Detroit, county of lvlfayne, State of Mrichigan, have invented a certain new and useful lmprovement in Alarm-Signals, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to alarm signals and consists in the improvements hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a detail plan view partly in section showing my device adjusted in operative position in relation to a door.
Fig. 2 shows a device embodying my invention adjusted to a window.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of an apparatus embodying my invention.
Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the same to a somewhat enlarged scale.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section of the same, and
Fig. 6 is a detail plan view of the device shown adjusted to a window.
a is a casing which I prefer to make of the general form shown and perforate the top as indicated. lVithin the casing a I place a train of clock work which is actuated by a going-barrel which is wound up by a key c in the usual way. Z is a star wheel actuated by the clock work b. This star wheel oscillates an anchor-pawl e pivoted at e2. f is an arm extending from the pawl e and having a hammer head f3 at its outer end which, when said pawl is actuated by the star wheel d, strikes against the bell g to sound the alarm. f2 is an arm extending from the shaft of the pawl e in the opposite direction to that of the arm f and rigidly secured to said shaft. z is a double armed lever pivoted at za and bent over at its lower end. as shown at h2, to extend under the arm f2. z' is a rod pivoted at its inner end to the upper arm of the double armed lever h and extending horizontally through the end wall of the casing a and terminating in a button at i2.

oscillates the lever 7L about its pivot h3 carryingthe horizontally extending part h2 of said lever away from the arm f2 and permitting the movement of said arm. In this position the anchor pawl e is oscillated and the alarm is sounded. When the rod is pulled out it brings the part h2 of the lever /t into cont-act with the arm f2 and holds one of the det-ents of the pawl e in engagement with a tooth of the star wheel o and stops the mechanism so that the alarm ceases to sound.
,7' y' are two spurs adapted to be forced into the iioor or to the casing of a window, and f: is a spur having' a longitudinal slot k2 therein in which fits a block m secured to the casing. By thrusting the spur la outward it engages the floor or casing and coacts with the spur j to hold the casing inv place.
The casing is cut out as indicated at n Figs. 6 and el to make room for the cord o of a window.
The method of using the above described device is as follows:
The casing a when used in connection with the door is placed upon the iioor in front of the door with the button i2 near the surface of the door which will move outward on openingl the door. The clock work being wound up and the button 2 pulled to its outer limit, if the door is opened the button 2 will be pushed inward and the alarm will begin to sound while the casing will prevent the complete opening of the door. lf it is desired to stop the alarm the button 2 is simply pulled out and the apparatus is I` adjusted for further use.
"When used in connection with a window it is secured to the sash as indicated in Fig. 2 so that the button 2 is in the line of travel of the sash g. If the sash is slightly raised it will contact the button and press it inward causing the alarm to ring as above described.
lVhat I claim is:
The combination of a casing, an alarm mechanism therein consisting in part of a star wheel, an actuating mechanism therefor. an anchor pawl coacting with said star wheel to oscillate a hammer to sound the alarm. an arm extending from said pawl laterally to its axis of oscillation, a double armed lever pivoted with its axis of oscillation parallel to that of said pawl and bent under said arm, a rod pivoted to the upper end of said double armed lever and extend- 5 ing through the Wall of Said casing, and
means for securing said casing in the line of travel of a door or Window so that said Y icaton.
NOAH STEBBNS.
