M. R. FREEBERG. CLOTHES LINE CLAMP. APPLICATIQN mm 1mm. m5.

CLOTHES-LINE CLAMP.
Application filed January 26, 1916. Serial No. 74,445.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN R. FREEBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Clamps, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relates to clothes line clamps, and ithas for its object to produce a clamp of simple and improved construction by means of which a clothesline or the like may be tightened and securely clamped or held in position foruse.
A further object of the invention is to produce a clampof thecharacter described, the body of which may be easily and inexpensively manufactured of sheetmetal by properly bending and manipulatin, the
which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawing,-
Figure 1 is a top plan view of'a clamp constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a front end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side elevation. Fig. 4 is a rearend view.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 5-5 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view illustrating the operation of the device.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved clamping device comprises a bottom plate or base plate 15 of substantially rectangular shape having at one side an upturned flange 16, said flange being provided at the ends thereof with laterally extending hooks 17. Notches 18 are formed 1n the base plate 15 adjacent to the ends of the upstanding flange 16. Riveted or otherwise secured on the base plate 15 is a cleat 19 and a flat spring 20, the latter being plositioned beneath one of the arms of the c eat.
In operation, the clothes line, indicated at 21, is engaged with a support, such as a post 22, it being understood that one end of said-line has been previously attached to some fixed supporting point, indicated An intermediate portion of the line 1s laid in the angle between the base plate 15 and the flange 16, portions thereof being engaged with the notches 18 and looped around the shanks of the hooks 17, the clamplng device being thereby held in adjusted position on the line, but in such a manner that it may be very readily detached or its position changed. The free end of the l1ne having been brought around or Iotherwise engaged withthe post or supporting member 22 is now connected with the cleat 19, the free end being finally passed beneath the retaining spring 20. It will be readily understood that by pulling upon the line, the latter may be properly tensioned, it being secured by the clamping device.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. Aline clamp comprising a base plate havin' an upturned flange provided with latera ly extending terminal hooks for slidable and frictional engagement with an intermediate portion of a line, and a cleat mounted on the base plate for adjustable engagement with a terminal portion of the a same line.
2. A device of the class described comprislng a base plate having an upstanding flange provided with laterally extending end members and notches adjacent to the ends of sa d flange and a line attaching device on said base plate, said line attaching device conslstmg of a cleat and a flat spring positloned between the base plate and one arm of the cleat.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN R. FREEBERG.
