' Be. i k wn that S I EL LES I HAMP- ToN, a citizen of the United. States,and a resident of,Burlingto11, in the county, of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have made certain new and usefullmprovementsin Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improvement in ironing boards and has for its object to provide a device of the character specified, to be used with ordinary kitchen tables and the like, which when not in use may be pushed beneath the table cover out of the Way.

In the drawings Figure 1 is an end view of a table provided with the improved board.

The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with a kitchen table 1 of usual construction, and the said table is provided just beneath the top with a slot or passage 2, in which the ironing board is mounted to slide.

The improved board consists of two portions 3 and 4, of wood or like suitable material, and the portion 3 is rigidly connected to slide bars 5, the said bars being connected to the ends of the portion, and the bars are mounted to slide in the slot or passage 2. These bars have outturned lugs 7 at their ends to limit their outward movement.

Extension bars are pivotally connected to the slide bars at the ends of the portion 3,

by means of screws 9, which also assist in connecting the portion 3 to the slide bars. The extension bars have notches or recesses 10, which are adapted to be engaged by screws 11 to permit the extension bars to take the position shown in Fig. 4 or to permit the extension bars to be swung into a position such that the portion 4 will be between the portion 8 and the roller 6. The. screws 11 by their engagement with the notches hold the portions 3 and 4 in alinement in either position.

It will be noticed that the lower ends of the links 12 are extended below the extension bars 8, and these extended ends are adapted to engage ribs or ledges 19.0n the extension bars when the board 4 is swung in the plane of the board 3 to hold the board 4 in the said plane to prevent it from moving below the said plane. When not in use, the board 4 is swung down into the plane of the board 3, the pawls 17 being first released after which the entire ironing-board may be pushed into the slot or passage 2 until the board 4 has its front edge flush with the table edge.

When itis desired to use the board, it is drawn out and the board 4 lifted to Fig. 1 position, after which the 'pawls 17 are ,engaged with the notch 18 and the board is ready for use.

In combination with a suitable support having a slot or passage at its front, of an ironing board consisting of a base portion, slide bars connected with the ends of the base and movable in the slot or passage and having means for limiting their outward movement, extension bars pivoted to the slide bars and base, means in connection with the said bars and the extension bars for preventing downward movement of the outer ends of the extension bars below the slide bars, an ironing board, links means for limiting the downward swinging movement of the board to a position in the plane of the base.

2. In combination with a suitable support, of slide bars mounted to slide in the suitable support, extension bars, an ironing board consisting of a base arranged between the lapping ends of the slide bars and the extension bars and rigidly connected to the slide bars and pivotally connected to the extension bars, and a board connected to the extension bars, said board being adapted to swing to either side of the base and means for limiting themovement of the extension bars in either direction.

port, of slide bars mounted to slide in the suitable support, a base secured between the outer ends of the slide bars, extension bars pivotally connected to the slide bars at the ends of the base, a board connected to the extension bars to swing upwardly above. the plane of the base or downwardly into the plane of the base, said board, with the extension bars, being adapted to swing to either side of the base, means for limiting the last named swinging movement in either direction, and means for holding the board in position above the base.
