SHOE-BLACKING STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oat. 2, ion.
Application filed December 4, 1916. Serial No. 134,943.
To all whom it mail concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. REILLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Blacking Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shoe blacking stands or cases, one of the purposes of which is to provide a suitable housed in stand for receiving the articles used in blacking shoes; and it is also constructed with an object in view of it forming a foot rest or stool to enable the shining of shoes.
The invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction and arrangement of parts of the stool, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed. Reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the stand showing clearly the arrangement of the hinged portions.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of my improved stand.
Fig. 3 is an end view of my device showing the door and foot rest in open position for the shining of shoes; and
Fig. 4 is a top plan view showing more clearly the arrangement of parts in position for the shining of shoes.
Referring to the drawing and specifically describing the invention, the numeral 1 designates the end pieces of the stand or case, and have their lower ends cut away to form feet 2, making a support for the case or stand. The numeralB indicates the rear side of the case, and 4 the bottom of the case or stand. Secured to the bottom of the case is stop piece 5 for the door 6. Said door is connected to the top board 7 of the case by a narrow strip 8 which strip is hinged on the upper edge of the top board by hinges 9, and on the other side to the edge of the door by the hinges 10, thus permitting the door 6 and strip 8 to fold completely over the top board of the case. This top board 7 of the case has mounted centrally on its outer sur shoe rest fastened to the inner surface of the door or cover 6. Said shoe rest consists of a plate or block 13 shaped substantially to conform to the shape of the sole and rag guiding members 14: mounted on the sides of the block, and partaking of its configuration.
From the foregoing it will be readily seen that in using the device, the door 6 is lifted out and over the top board 7 by means of the knob 12 and then placed in horizontal position on the top board. The shoe rest 13 is now in position for the shining of shoes.
It is to be especially noticed that the peculiar manner of hinging the strip 8 to the upper edge of the top board instead of at its lower edge, permits both the door and the strip to rest on the top board so that the cooperation of the knob 12 with the projecting member 11 forming a stop for the said door is obtained with the correct horizontal position of this part for the shining of shoes.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is I 1. A shoe blacking stand, comprising a housed in case, a door therefor, a narrow strip connecting the door to the case, said narrow strip being hinged on the one side to the upper edge of the top board of the case and onthe other side to the edge of the door to allow said'door and strip to fold completely over the top board of the case, and means for sustaining the door in its open position in spaced relation to the top of the case.
2. A shoe blacking stand, comprising a housed in case, a door for said case, a narrow strip intermediate said door and case and forming a connecting element therefor for enabling the door and strip to fold completely over the top board of the case, a manipulating member attached to the free 5 side of the door, and a spacing member arranged on the top of the case beneath the door when the latter is in open position and adapted to sustain the door to prevent strain on the eonnectlon, said manipulating member conctlng with the spacing member to 1k, prevent lateral movement of the door when 111 such open position. 7
