Letters Patent No. 113,995, dated April'25, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS FOR TREATING RHEUMATISM, &c.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and maldng part of the same.
To all whom it may cancer-n.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. FARBAR, of Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Medical Compound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact vdescription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same.
This invention and discovery relates to an improvement in the curative art, and consists in a medicine designed to be taken internally as well as to be applied externally in all nervous afl'cctions, rheumatism, and kindred complaints, and is especially valuable as a remedy for diarrhea and all diseases of the kidneys.
The medicine consists of a fluid compound composed of the ingredients hereinafter named, used in about the proportions specified.
' In carrying out my invention and discovery I make use of the following ingredients, viz:
Alcohol, thirty-six ounces; aqua ammonia, six ounces; oil origanum, four ounces; oil pennyroyal, one ounce; oil anise, one ounce; oil smart weed, one ounce; oil Sassafras, one and a half ounce; oil cedar,
one ounce; oil hemlock, half ounce; No. 6, three ounces; red sanders, two ounces; chloroform, two ounces.
The above-mentioned ingredients are. thoroughly mixed together in any suitable vessel. The composition may then be filtered, when it is ready for packing in bottles and for use.
This is a most valuable family medicine, and may be taken internally or applied externally as a liniment with the best efl'ect.
