CHARLES C. 'VOSBURG-I-I, NORWOOD, OI-IIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE JOHN SHILLITO COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A. CORLOR-ATION OF OHIO.
DISPLAY-STAND.
Application filed April 30, 1914.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. VosBURorI, residing at Norwood, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Display-Stand, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, attention being called to the drawing which accompanies this application and forms a part thereof.
This invention concerns devices to be used for displaying materials like tapestries, linens, etc, either in the finished form of a certain article or as a sample of the material therefor.
The device is substantially in form of a stand provided with a flat support upon which the exhibits may be spread and which support is adjustable and may be inclined to various angles to permit viewing of the exhibits under conditions most suitable in a given case.
Mechanism as shown is provided to permit such tilting and certain means are added for holding samples in position in a manner to permit their most convenient manipulation while being handled for the purpose of being displayed.
In the following specification and claim is found a full description of my invention, also of its parts and construction which latter is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1. shows a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2. is a side View of the same with parts broken away. Fig. 3. is a vertical section of Fig. 2, taken on line 33 indicated on said figure. Fig. 4:. is an enlarged portion of Fig. 2, and shows certain details of construction.
In the drawing, letter A designates the flat, rectangular top of the stand preferably of wood, upon which the articles to be exhibited may be spread.
7 is a hinge whereby, at its underside, and in the center thereof this top is secured to the upper end of a pedestal 13 whereby it is supported. This pedestal is hollow, preferably built up of wood and has a suitable base Z) substantially box shaped and also built up of wood.
Secured to the underside of the top there is a segmental rack 8 provided with spaced notches on its lower edge and positioned so that it extends transversely through the up- Specification of Letters Patent.

per part of the hollow pedestal, but without connection thereto. Slots 9 are provided in opposite sides of the pedestal to permit the rack to pass freely through it.
Numeral 10 indicates a latch bar supported in upright position within the hollow pedestal and so that its upper edge is below and in line with rack 8. It is yieldingly held against the lower edge of the rack by a spring 11 which bears againsta collar 12 on said bar and is supported upon a plate 13 secured within the pedestal and preferably upon the top 141 of the box shaped base.
24 is a guide bar within the upper part of the pedestal through which latch bar 10 loosely passes and whereby its upper end is held in alinement with the lower edge of rack 8.
It is now obvious, when the upper end of the latch bar occupies one of the notches in the rack, that top A is immovably held in position whereas otherwise, the latch bar being depressed, the top may be swung freely on its hinged connection to a diflerent angular tilt in which it may be re-locked and held by the latch bar. For the actuation of this latter a lever 15 is provided which occupies the hollow base to one side of which it is pivoted at one of its ends as shown at 16, while its other end projects outwardly through said base and forms a treadle 17.
The samples are held as shown between the under side of the top near one edge thereof, and a clamping bar 18 loosely supported at its ends upon two bolts 19 which project from the underside of said top. Thumb nuts :20 hold this bar on the said boltsand serve also to adjust it against the articles so as to clamp them in position against the underside of the top.
For inspection the samples are turned up over the edge of the top and thrown over onto the same as best shown in Figs. 1 and 2. To prevent any possible injury which for instance a short turn around the edge of the top might produce in some materials, said edge is provided with a fabric-covered roll constructed as shown in Fig. 4;. A strip of fabric 21 is stretched over a substantially semi-circular piece of molding 22 and held in place at its edges which are clamped between said molding and the edge of the top to which said molding is secured.
Having described my invention, I claim as new:
A display stand comprising a fiat, rectangular top provided at one edge With a substantially semi-circular, fabric-covered, cushioning roll and adjustably supported to permit tilting to a position in Which the edge with said cushioning roll may occupy a position elevated with reference to the opposite edge, a clamping bar on the under side of the top and close to said cushioning roll, bolts seated in said top and projecting beyond the underside thereof Where they engage the bar mentioned, one bolt at each of its ends, and nuts on these boltsbelow the bar whereby this latter may be adjusted for the purpose of clamping material like fabric against the underside of the top and in a manner so that When said material is turned up, so as to rest on the upper side of the top, the objectionable effects of a short turn of the material is prevented by the cushioning roll over which said material is passed.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aifix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
