CORSET.
Application filed February 10, 1912.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EMIL SGHWEINBURG,
' a citizen of the Empire of Austria-Hungary,
and a resident of New York, in the borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates more particularly to a front laced corset, the body of which has a vertical front opening closed by detachable lacing members. I e
The principal object of the invention is to secure a proper preliminary adjustment to the waist and hips of the wearer of the body of the corset preparatory to the final lacing thereof. 7
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a corset embodying my invention, without the lacing member, Fig. 2 is a separate front View of the detachable lacing member.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.
ations of a band 12 passing at the inner part of the corset from one open end to the other, giving the design of the waist-line thereby. A second band 13 with projecting tabs 14 and 15 is provided at the inner part, and this band 13 is intended to pass over the hip-line of the wearer. lhis waist-line band or hip-line band may be made to pass completely around the inner part of the corset and have projecting-tabs extending beyond the open edges of the corset or may be made in separate pieces secured to the sides of the corset and extend forwardly with projecting tabs, the main consideration being to place the upper band to indicate to the wearer absolutely the waist-line, and to place the lower band to indicate to the wearer the hip-line. The projecting-tabs 10 and 11 and 14 and 15 are each provided with openings 16, which openings are intended to engage studs 17 secured to the open ends of the corset. One tab of each pair (say 10 and 14) is provided with a slot 18 through which the Specification of Letters Patent.

companion tab may pass. These projectingtabs are used in such a manner that the openings of one tab are adapted to engage the stud on the opposite open edge of the corset and the other tab is adapted to have its opening engage the stud. on the opposite end of the corset, one tab passing through the slot in the companion tab. Instead of the openings and studs and also instead of the slot, other means for securing the tabs to the opposite edges of the corset may be provided.
The main consideration of the invention is to provide tabs having fastening means, to obtain a preliminary positioning of the corset in accordance with the shape of the wearer so that immediately on applying the corset, a perfect seat of the corset is obtained, since the upper tabs secure the proper positioning of the corset on the waist-line and the lower tabs secure the proper positioning of the corset on the hipline of the wearer. It is intended to use those tabs for the preliminary positioning of the corset so as to enable the wearer to apply the corset in proper position before the corset is finally laced, thus enabling the wearer to put off the final lacing until the last steps of her dressing, whereby distorting and i pushing the corset out of its proper position is absolutely prevented.
When the wearer is ready to finally lace the corset, she applies to the front opening of the corset a detachable means 25 comprising two members each provided with a steel 26 having laterally extending clasps 27 at the exterior sides and eyelets 28 at one side, and hooks 29 on the other side. Any other form of fastening-device instead of these hooks and eyelets 28 may be used. The object of these clasps 27 is to fasten the detachable means 25 to corresponding studs on the body of the corset, which are indicated by 17, and this with the lacing 19 in loose or open position. After the detachable means or lacing strip has been applied by securing the clasps to the studs and also securing the hooks 29 to the corresponding eyelets or other means 30 on the body of the corset, the lacing may be proceeded with and the corset forced into its tightened position.
- member lace up the corset whenever ready canvas 32, with a steel member 33 which may be inserted orremoved'. This protector is adapted to'be sewed or otherwise fastened to one edge of the detachable lacing part,. -as indicated at 20 so as to give a full support inthe frontand act as a protectorat the rear of the lacing. This protector is not claimed as new, for corsets, however, but
only in combination with the detachable lacing member.
'By' my improved means the corset may be placed in" the intended and final position being'assi'lred thereof by means of the-waist an'd hip line tabs and the lacing left until 15 Myimproved'laclng member may be manufactured as a separate article of manufacture, either combined with the protector or without, and afiords means whereby the final lacing may be very much convenienced "Go'pies' ef'this p'atentmay be obtained for I have shown the tabs applied to a frontlace corset, but it is clear also that it may be applied to any other form of corset, the essen'tial feature being to provide means whereby the corset may be immediately placed into proper position in accordance With the waist-line and hip-line before the 'clasps are closed and the finallacing perfected, and as the tabs are made of soft material they will not inany manner inconvenience the wearer. p
I clalm r A corsetprovided with an opening. and
with pairs of securing tabs extending from the edges of said opening in positions corresponding to the wearers Waist-lineand hipline respectively, one tab of each pair being slotted for the passage of the other tab, andmeans for securing the free ends of the tabs to the opposite'edges of the said opening. In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of tWo subscribing witnesses.
