Description
Patented June 17, 1919.
INVENTOR Ware/me Mnsmmz ATTORNEY S E S S v E N H W are.
CLARENCE W. KINSMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
ELASTIC GARMENT-FASTENER.
Application filed November 16, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, CLARENCE W. KINS- MAN, citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elastic Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an elastic fastener for under clothes and has for its object the production of a simple and eiiicient fastener which will permit a garment to fit perfectly upon the wearer and also allow the wearer to breathe naturally.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient elastic fastener for under garments which will permit the garment to snugly fit upon the wearer without causing any uncomfortable binding action.
Other objects and advantages of the pres ent invention will appear throughout the following specification and claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a garment showing the fastener applied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of a garment the fastener being shown partly open,
Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the elastic fastening strips.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that 1 designates a garment which may be made of any design desired and this garment is provided with an opening constituting a placket or fly 2, as shown clearly in Figs, 1 and 2 of the drawings. The opening 2 is provided with an angularly cut edge 3 upon each side thereof and an elastic fastening strip a is secured to each angularly out edge 3 for constituting an inner and outer elastic fastener. The elastic fastener strip 4: is also provided with an angularly extending edge 5 to conform to the angularly cut edge 3 of the opening 2. Each elastic fastener is stitched along its angularly cut edge 5 to the edge 3 of the opening 2, of the garment 1 by means of a row of stitches 6. The elastic fastener strip 4 which is secured to the garment near one side edge of the opening 2 upon the inner face thereof constitutes an in ner fastener strip. The inner fastener strip Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1'7, 1919.
Serial No. 202,376.
4.- is provided with suitable hoops 7 indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1 for engaging suitable eyes carried upon the inner face of the garment 1. The outer fastener strip 4 is provided with hooks 8 along its outer edge for engaging the eyes 9 secured to the outer face of the garment l as shown clearly in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
By considering. Figs. 1 and 2, it will be seen that the two elastic fastener strips will constitute an efficient securing means for the garment and at the same time will permit the slightexpansion of the same to accommodate the garment to the body of the wearer while breathing. The comparatively broad grip ping action of the elastic fastener upon the body of the garment will cause the garment to snugly fit around the body of the wearer and prevent the garment from binding tightly around the wearers body such as would be caused by a narrow band. The fastening or mounting of the fastener upon the garment illustrated and described would cause the garment to fit snugly around the hips of the wearer and thereby prevent the garment from binding upon any particular point of the body.
It of course should be understood that the garment fastener may be used upon any article of clothing without departing from the spirit of the invention.
\Vhat is claimed is As a new article of n'ianufacture, a garment con'lprising a body, said body provided with a placket, an outer elastic fastener strip secured to the under face of the outer portion of said placket, an inner elastic fastener strip secured to the outer face of the under portion of said placket, fasteners secured to the under face of said outer strip and engaging the outer face of said garment, and fasteners secured to the outside face of said inner strip and engaging the inner face of said garment, and said strips extending in opposite directions across said garment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE W. KINSMAN.
