Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Mar. 23, T9155.
Application filed February 4, 1913. Serial No. 746,197.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR D. SYLVIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bibs, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to adapt the neck band of a bib or cape when the same is in use, to adjust itself readily to any variation in the size of the wearers neck, whereby to prevent such neck band from binding and impeding the circulation of blood in the neck of the user under comparatively sudden expansion of the neck. And to this end the objects of the invention are attained by forming the neck band of a strip of elastic material.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan of the invention showing it applied to an ordinary bib or cape. Fig. 2 is an edge view of a portion of the same.
The body 5 may be of any material found suitable for the purpose such as textile material and may be waterproofed or otherwise as desired and according to the purpose for which the bib is to be used. The shape and size of this body 5 will also be governed by the desire of the user or the use to be made of the bib.
The neck band 10 is of a single piece of elastic webbing or other suitable elastic material, and instead of being stitched or otherwise permanently secured to the body 5 the said neck band 10 is detachably connected to an upstanding piece 13 extending around the edge of the neck opening lt and having secured thereto a series of one of the components of a glove fastener 15 which interlock with the other components of a glove fastener secured to the neck band 10. lVith this structure the neck band 10 may be readily detached from the body whenever it is desired to prepare the same for washing or when it is desired to replace a worn out neck band with a new one.
The edge portions of the bib may be connected together with pins or other common securing devices (not shown) after the band 10 has been stretched around the neck of the user.
What is claimed as new is:
A bib comprising a fabric having a central opening and an incision leading from said opening to its edge, and a band of elastic webbing mounted on the fabric at the edge of the opening and having its ends flush with the edges of the incision and separable securing devices for detachably holding the band on the fabric.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatur in presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR D. SYLVIE.
