Description
aangenaam effinQ e EDWARD L. MEGILL, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.;`
Leners Patent No. 112,821, daad Maren 21, 1871.
IMPRovEMi-:NT 1N P LATl-:N FEED-GUIDES.
The Schedule yreferred to in these Letters 'Patent and making part of the same..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, 'EDWARD L. MEGILL, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvementyin Pla-ten 'Feed-Guides; and I do hereby declare that the following isafnll, clear, and-exact description thereof, which -willenable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference 'being had tothe accompanying drawing forming part of this specifieatiomin which- Fignre l is a perspective view of my improved feeduide. g Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same. Figure 3 is a bottom view of the same. Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modified form ofthe same. l
Figure 5 is a sectional view of the same. Figure 6 is a bottom view of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish au iinproved feed-guide; and Y It consists in the feed-guide constructed as hereinafter more fully described.
A are the blades of the guides, which are made crpoked .and with their points turned upward, as showniu figs. 1, 2, 4, and 5, A`in the usual manner.
Theplate B of the guide is made with two pointsl or prods, C, in its lower edge,'which, when .the blade A has been inserted in the tympan-sheet and the guide adjusted in place, are forced downward their full length by pressing'upou the upper edge of said plate. 4
lhe holes made by the points O are so small and clear that they do not iu the least injure the packing, as is the case' when common pins are used.
'lhe points C also prevent the sheets from sliding under the guides, as they are liable to dovwith quads, &c.
' The ripper' edge of the plate B is inclined forward to form a cap, D, to prevent the sheets fromr springx ing over the guides. f
The faceof the plate B is made dat, broad, and smooth, and its ends are rounded o or turned toY` the rearward, as shown in the drawing, so that anything' 'from the thickest card-boardr to the thinnest and. v roughest-edged paper can be fed to the guides with edge of the sheets should he pressed down to the bottom of' the face of the guides by the feeder.
The size ofthe caps and faces of the guideswill he varied to suit the different forms of .types and woody cuts, and will be made without the caps D when re' quired for registering sheets without any margin.
Guides thus formed can be readily shifted or adjusted by simply raising thepoints Gand moving the 4said guides forward or backward, asmay be required.
0r the guides can be removed and replaced exactly in the required position.
The tympan-sheet can also be raised for any alter.- ation in the making ready without removing or displacing the guides, as they are held by the tympansheet alone. Y
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improvement upon feed-guides, consisting of lthe parts B, D, and A, providing the part B with teeth C C to penetrate the tympan, substantially as described. The above specification of my invention signed by methis 15th day of August, 1870.
. EDWARDL. MEGILL.
