Description

HENRY M. BUDD, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
PORTABLE INCINERATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 12, 1915.
Application led March 26, 1912. Serial No. 686,398.
T r1.7] v/mm it m07/ concern Be it known that I, HENRY M. Roon, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of.C:ilifoinia, have invented a new and useful Portable Incinerator, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for the destruction by fire of rubbish, garbage, and other waste matter` and mv object is to provide a cheap portable incinerator for use in private families, apartment houses. restaurants and the like, and one that will be safe and etlective. I attain these objects by means of thc mechanism illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my incinerator. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective Viewof the closure of the incinerator.
In Fig. 1, l is the body of the incinerator, 2 is a section of the top, 3 another section of the top, 4 another section of the top, 5 the outer section of the limb of the closure, 6 one of the sections of the inner limb of the closure, 7 another section of the inner limb, 8 another section of the same, 9 lining of the outer limb of the closure, 10 the pivot of the closure, 11 its handles, 12 legs, 13 ash box, 14 door, 15 draft holes. 16 air chamber lining, 16 air chamber, 17 and 18 cold air inlets, and 19 a lflue.
In Figs. to the same parts and in Fig. 2, 19 and 192 are air outlets, in the Hue, 20 is a cold air inlet` 21 grate, 22 air inlet in closure, and Qi air outlets, to admit cool air through the 1i The general form of my incinerator is that of a suuare metal box 1 though it may be made of any other suitable shape. It is mounted on the angle iron legs 12 and has the ash pan 13 in its base and which is withdrawable. Above the ash pan is the grate 21 and the draft door 14 having the draft inlets 15. The top of the incinerator is formed in the three sections, the section 2 being level. the section 3 being inclined forwardly and downwardly from the first section, and the section 4 being level parallel to section 2. This section 4 is not covered but is' open its whole length and width, and in it is pivoted at the bottom of the inclined section, 3 the double closure of which the limb 5 is the outer closure of the opening and the other or inner limb which operates 2 and 3 the same characters referinside the box is composed of the section 6 which is bent at the same angle to the section 5 as the relative angle of the top sections 4 and 3. It is then bent at right angles forward to form the section 7, and this section is again bent in right angles inward to form the lip section 8. It will be seen that shaped and hung as described, the double closure when opened will cause the panshaped inner limb to be positioned forward against the front wall of the box thus shutting off the fire from the opening and providing a safe receptacle in which to place combustible waste without danger of being burned by the Haines. lVhen the closure is shut down again the inner limb is curved backward and up against the top of the box and the waste matter drops out of it onto the lire below. The draft carries the smoke and gases up back of the closure pan and out through the pipe 19 into a chimney. The box is lined throughout its interior by the lining 1G to form an air chamber 16 between the fire and the outer walls. In these outer walls are the cold air inlets 17, 18 and 20 through which is drawn the air from outside the box to circulate around the box and keep the outside walls cool. The small air holes 19 and 192 in the pipe 19 cause a current of air to rise from the bottom of the air chamber. In the top of the outside closure limb are one or more inlets 22 by which is admitted air to cool the same the air being drawn in by the draft through the outlets 23. There may also be air inlets 24 in the top for the same purpose.
What I claim as my invention, and desire Letters Patent for, is-
A portable incinerator comprising an outer casing, supporting legs secured to the base thereof` a centrally disposed inner casing forming a fire box secured therein, said inner casing being so positioned in said outer casing as to form an air chamber therebetween. said outer casing being provided with air inlets communicating with said air chamber, a top having a Hat rear section and having secured thereto near the center a smoke pipe communicating with the fire box` having air passages communicating with the air chamber for causing a draft therein, a downwardly and forwardly inclined section having air inlets near the bottom thereof, a at front section hinged to the base of the inclined section adapted to cover said opening and having secured thereto a lining:` in such manner as to form an nir chamber therebetween. said air chamber having air inlets and outlets, Aan inwardly projecting portion of said front section bent to form a pan and adapted to touch the front wall of the fire box when the front section is raised to a position of rest against said inclined section, adapted to receive a portion of matter when in such position and to discharge said matter into the 15 fire box when restored to a normal position, a draft door in the front of the outer casing, a grate in the fire box, and a removable ash pan below the grate.
