To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, .ALEXANDER M. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window- Blind-Slat Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in window blinds, and one of its objects is the provision of a novel device for holding the slats of the blind in adjusted position.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a blind slat holder which shall be simple, durable, and efficient, which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost, and which may be readily and quickly applied to blinds of various constructions.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction,

- combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window blind, showing the application of my improved blind slat holder, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the horizontal plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1.

Referring to the drawings by reference numerals, 1 designates the side rails, 52 the end rails, 3 the slats, and 4 the slat feathering bar of a window blind of the usual construction and form.

My improved blind slat holder comprises an attaching base 5, a spacing member 6 arranged at right angles with relation to the base, and a comparatively long arm 7 arranged at right angles with relation to the spacing member and extending therefrom in a direction opposite to the projection of the base. The base 5, spacing member 6, and arm 7, are preferably formed from a single strip of steel or other suitable material, the strip being bent to provide the base and spacing member. By securing the base 5 to the inner face of one of the side bars 1 by means of screws 8, the arm 7 is arranged in spaced parallel relation to the slats 3 and projects from the side rail to a point beyond the rod 4.

Secured to the inner face of the arm 7 is a pair of relatively spaced spring jaws 9 which grip the feathering bar 4 and hold the slats 3 in their adjusted position. The

jaws 9 are provided with flanges 10 by means of which they are secured to the arm 7, rivets 11 passing through the flanges and arm. The inner or active faces of the jaws 9 are curved to correspond to the configuration of the opposite sides of the feathering bar 4-. The distance between the active faces of the jaws 9 is less than the transverse extent of the feathering bar 4, so that the jaws will grip the bar with a force sufficient to hold the slats 3 against accidental movement. To apply the jaws 9 to the bar 4, it is only necessary to flex the arm '7 at a point between the jaws. Owing to its elasticity, the arm 7 will, upon the removal of the flexing force, return to its normal straight condition and force the jaws 9 into and hold them in firm gripping relation to the bar 4;. The grip of the jaws 9 on the bar 4 is sufficient to hold the slats 3 from moving accidentally out of adjusted position, but is not sufficient to prevent the adjustment of the slats by a positive movement of the rod 4:. If found necessary to strengthen the arm 7 or to increase its elasticity, a bowed spring 12 may be secured to the outer face thereof. The spring 12 is secured in position by the rivets 11.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it should be may be forced upwardly or downwardly through the jaws 9 when it is desired to adjust the slats 3, and that the jaws 9 will, owing to their grip upon the rod 1, hold the slats from being moved accidentally out of their adjusted position. The blind slat holder comprises but few parts and could, therefore, be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

Changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is 2-- 1. The combination with a window blind consisting of a frame, slats pivotally mounted on the frame and a feathering bar connected to the slats, of a horizontally disposed arm having one end secured to the side rail of the frame and the other end eX- tending in a horizontal direction across the feathering rod of the blind and spring jaws carried by the said arm adapted to engage apparent that the rod 4L the said rod to prevent the accidental movement of the slats.

2. The combination With a Window blind consisting of a frame, slats pivotally mounted on the frame and a feathering bar connected to the slats, of a horizontally dis posed arm having one end secured to the side rail of the frame and the other end extending in a horizontal direction across the feathering rod of the blind, two spring jaws carried by the arm and adapted to engage said rod and a spring secured to the arm to furnish additional tension to the j aWs in their engagement With the rod.

3. The combination With a Window blind consisting of a frame, slats pivotally mounted on the frame and a feathering ba-r connected to the slats of a base secured to the frame, a right angularly disposed spacing member carried by the base, a right angularly disposed arm carried by the spacing member and extending in a direction opposite to the projection of the base and a pair of jaws carried by the arm and engaging the bar to hold the slats against accidental movement.
