SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 5, 1914. Serial No. 836,438.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMET Pnonsr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paterson, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shade roller brackets of the class designed to permit adjustment so as to accommodate shade rollers varying in length and it consists in certain improvements whereby a fixture of this character may be manufactured at a minimum cost, will present a neat and attractive appearance when in place and will be simple in construction and require the simplest operations to adjust it.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows a window frame and a shade supported therein by my improved adjustable shade roller brackets; Figs. 2 to 5 illustrate the improved bracket as formed from sheet material, Fig. 2 showing the blank from which the supporting member of the bracket is formed,Fig. 3 being a front elevation of the supporting member, Fig. 4: a perspective view of the supporting member and bracket proper assembled, he former appearing in section, and Fig. 5 is a plan view of the supporting member and bracket assembled and attached to the woodwork; and, Figs. 6 and 7 show a modification inwhioh the supporting member is formed of relatively thick material, Fig. 6 being a perspective view of said supporting. member and Fig. 7 the bracket proper adapted to the supporting member shown 111 1g. 6
Referring first to Figs. 2 to. 5, a is an elongated blank of sheet metal having at both ends and on both sides the rectangular wings b. This blank is placed in a suitable are bent all in the same direction so as to stand at right angles to the plane of the body of (Figs. 4 and 5) which, when placed against a supportingsurface, as that of the window frame d, will space the body of the blank from said surface. Transverse parallel and and shaped as follows: The Wings 12 the blank, thereby forming rests a.
equidistant folds e are also formed in the blank, preferably all upstanding from the inside thereof, and forming ribs the same producing the recesses f. Further, holes 9 are formed to receive screws h for attaching to the woodwork the supporting member which has thus been formed. I
The bracket proper consists of a piece of sheet metal stamped to form an arm a suitably shapcd to receive the trunnions of the shade roller, and the inverted U-shaped clip j having a locking lug 70.
Referring to Figs. 6 and 7 the supporting member Z is a solid piece of (preferably cast) metal having transverse groovesm formed therein and producing the recesses like the recesses f already described and also having holes a to receive attaching screws. The bracket proper o is substantially the same as the bracket proper already described excepting that its clip p is made suliiciently wide to fit over the supporting member Z.
When the brackets. proper, marked A in Fig. 1, are supporting the shade roller,
marked B in said figure, the inverted U- shaped straps thereof straddle the supporting members, marked 0 in Fig. 1, and engage in their recesses, fitting snugly therein so that there is no lost motion; their locking lugs 70 (or g in Fig. 7 engage the under sides of the supporting members a, so that the brackets proper are held against working up and off the supporting members. To
remove a bracket proper it is only necessary to spring open more or less its clip until the locking lug clears the supporting member. For adjusting the bracket to suit different lengths of shade rollers it will be understood that the bracket proper is shifted from one to another recess.
In the preferred form of the invention, the U-shaped clip exerts clamping Pressure on the supporting member, so that there is I no lost motion between the parts.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In combination, an elongated supporting member adapted to be secured horizontally Patented. Oct. 27, 19M.
