LABEL-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1, 1914.
Application filed December 13, 1913. Serial No. 806,518.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Ross A. MIZELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Label-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to a label holder, and aims to provide a novel and improved device of that character.
One object of the present invention is to provide a label holder of unique construction, which will enable the label to be readily applied thereto and detached therefrom.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a label holder of simple and inexpensive construction, and which will be convenient, practical and efficient in its use, the holder being designed for receiving an individual label.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the present invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section. Fig. 4: is a cross section taken on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
The present individual label holder embodies a rectangular base plate 1, having the flat side flanges 2 arranged at right angles thereto, and having its ends 3 reflexed, to provide sockets or pockets for receiving the ends of a label, the side portions of the re flexed ends 3 being bent over the terminal portions of the flanges 2, as at 4. The side flanges 2 are provided with notches or cut away portions 5 intermediate their ends and extending to the base plate, to provide thumb or finger openings, and the base plate 1 is provided with an upstruck or raised portion 6 between the notches or openings 5.
The holder may be constructed in various sizes, and proportions, and may be stamped from any suitable material, preferably sheet metal.
In use, the label 7 may be readily applied to the holder, by slipping the ends of the label into the pockets formed by the refiexed ends 3, which will enable the label to fit snugly between the flanges 2, the intermediate or central portion of the label being raised or bowed by the upstruck portion (5 at the cut away portions or notches 5, whereby the edges fof the label may be readily grasped by placing the fingers within the openings or notches 5. In this mannor, the label may be readily withdrawn, when desired or necessary.
lVhen the label is applied to the holder, there will be no tendency for the label to become accidentally dislodged or detached, and the present holder is also devoid of springs, or other intricate or complex parts.
The present holder is designed particularly for individual labels, and may be put to various uses, the ends of the holder being readily received by a slide, channel or other holding device.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A label holder embodying an elongated base plate having side flanges and terminal pockets to receive the ends of a label, the flanges being flat and arranged at right angles to the base plate to snugly receive and hold the label therebetween and having cutaway portions intermediate their ends and extending to the base plate, and the base plate having an upstruck portion intermediate the said cut-away portions for raising the label at the cut-away portions.
2. A label holder embodying an elongated base plate having side flanges and reflexed ends forming pockets to receive the ends of a label, the flanges being flat and arranged at right angles to the base plate to snugly receive and hold the label there- In testimony that I claim the foregoing between and having notches intermediate as my own, I have hereto afixed my signatheir ends and extending to the base plate, ture in the presence of two witnesses.
