LOCKED GARMENT RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N V. 24, 1914.
Application fi led April 4, 1914. Serial n). 829,611.
To all 1 07mm it may concern:
Be t known that 1, JOHN IxLIMozY r, a
subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary,
residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locked Garment Racks, of whichthe following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in locked garment racks.
The primary object of this device is to provide a coat and hat rack upon which such articles may be serviceably supported and locked thereon against. any unauthorized removal and thereby preventing the theft of such articles.
A further object is to provide a rackfor wearing apparel and upon which such apparel is automatically looked upon a closing of the device, but without the engagement of any elements therewith which will injure such articles.
A still further object is to provide a rack adapted to be secured to a permanent support andhaving a hat and a coat bracket upon which a hat and coat may be locked simultaneously upon the closing of a lock latch.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying,
drawings and pointed out in the appended claims. i
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views: Figure 1 is a. perspective View of the device detached and shown in locked position but without any articles supported thereby. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device mounted upon a support and having a coat and hat locked in their supported positions, the unlocked positions of the device being illustrated in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View taken upon line III-J11 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a similar transverse section takenupon line IVIV of Fig. 2.
Referring more in details to the drawings, the main frame 10 is illustrated as adapted to be secured to a permanent support such as a wall 11 by means of hold-fast devices 12 engaging the rearwardiy extending brackets 13. Said main frame is. provided with a forwardly projecting. hook 1 1 slightly removed from the bifurcated upper end 15 of the main frame, the said hook having a circular block 16 positioned at its free endand upon whichahat 17 or other article is adapted to be hung. A cross arm 18 projects from the lower end of the main frame andisadapted to receive thereon a coat 19 or other garment.
A locking arm 20 in the form of a curved neckis hinged upon the pin 21 secured be tween thejbifurcations of the upper end of the mainj jframe, the saidarm terminating at one end in a block 22 adapted to be brought into alinement with said block 1 6 and preferably provided upon its face with a corrugated or roughened pad The main frame is provided with a transverse slot 24: at a point adjacent its lower end and above the cross arm 18 and has a curved arm 25 mounted therein upon a transverse pin 26 while a cross arm 27 of less length than the cross arm 18 is secured to the lower free end of the arm 25 and adapted to be swung into flat engagement with the side of the cross arm 18, while said latter arm is provided with a facing,
strip 28 of soft material.
The rear end of the arm 20 extends rearwardly of the main frame and has pivoted thereto a shiftable rod 29 which extends through an opening 30 in the upper one of the brackets 13 and has its lower end pivoted to a rear extension 31 of the lower arm 25.
A locking latch 32has an extension 33 pivoted within the longitudinal slot 34: of the main frame and provided rearwardly of said frame with a pivotal connection 35 with the shiftable rod 29. The inner face of the latch 32 is provided with an engaging.
lVith this detail description of the device the complete operation thereof is thought to be apparent in that with the main frame secured to a permanent support as disclosed in Fig. 2 and with the hat positioned upon the block 16 and the coat placed uponthe cross arm 18 and with the shiftable members in their dotted line positions as therein disclosed, the locking operation is effected by pressing downwardly upon the latch 32 which by shifting. the rod 29 upwardly closes the two arms 20 and upon the hat and the coat respectively while the latch is received and automatically locked by the spring lock. When desired, the key is inserted in the lock and the latch released whereupon an upward movement to such latch elevates both of the arms 20 and 25, thus releasing the hat and coat from the rack.v
WVhile the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be preferable embodiments thereof, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, proportion and details of construction without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimedas new is A device of the class described, comprising a main frame having a bifurcated upper end and two longitudinally spaced slots adjacent to its lower end, a cross-arm upon the lower end of the frame, a locking arm for the cross-arm pivoted in the lower one of the slots and having a rear extension, a forwardly-projecting hook spaced from the upper end of the frame, an upper locking arm pivoted between the bifurcations of the upper end of the frame and having a rear extension, a shiftable rod pivotally-connected between the rear extensions of the arms and held in parallelism throughout its length with the main frame, a locking latch having an extension pivoted in the upper one of the slots and having its free end pivot'ally-connected to the shiftable rod, and a spring look upon the frame between the two slots and arranged for engaging with the latch. x
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses. I
JOHN KLIMCZYK.
