of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have` invented new and useful Improvements in Chalk-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe invention relates to cue chalkers, and more particularly to the class of extensible chalk holders.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a chalk holder wherein the cube of chalk for chalking the tips of cues will be held in a clamp which is carried. upon a coiled extensible spring held within a case so that when it is desired to use the cube the spring will be extended from the case, and on the releasing ofthe cube the spring will automatically wind, thereby bringing' the cube out of the way of the player of game of pool or billiards.
Another object of the invention is the pro-V vision of a chalk holder which is extremely simple in construction, can be mounted at any convenient point so that the cube of.
chalk can be easily handled by the user, and when not in use will be held conveniently and out of the way of the player of a game of billiards or pool,
A further object of the invention isthe provision of al chalk holder which is ex tremely simple in construction, reliable and eiiicient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.
With these and yother objects in view, the
invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated inl the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device or chalk holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
v8 of the section 5 is designed to tele-k scope upon the annular rim 9 of the section '6, and within this casing isheld a coiled flat` retractile spring 10, one end of which is fixed to a sleeve 11' 'tapped on to a bolt mem# ber 12 which ispassed centrally through the sections 5 and 6, and this Qbolt member 12 carries a nut 13 which fastens the sections 5 andA 6 together. spring is formed with a loop 14 in which is swiveled an eye member 15 fromwhichis adapted to be suspended the .chalk clamp presently described. The rims S and 9 of the sections 5 and 6 are provided with alining vnotches 16 through which is adapted to work the spring 10 on the extending and The outer end of the l retracting thereof. The section 5 has integrally formed therewith a perforated wing 17 through which is passed a suitable connection for fastening orhanging the casing in suspension from the ceilingl of a room overl or adjacent to a`pool or billiard table, as shown. -Secured in the eye member 15 is oneend of a flexible cord 20, on the opposite end of which is carried a chalk cube tends opposed resilient jaws 22 having inturned'spurs 23 adapted to bite into the chalk cube 24ywhich is engaged between the` i jaws 22 for the clamping of the same in the said clamps.
When it is desired to use the chalk cube 24 d the same is pulled upon, which causes the extending ofthe spring 10 from the casing,
and after the tip of the cue has been chalked in the ordinarywell-known manner the cube 24 is released, whereupon the spring is retracted within the casing so that the said ladapted tok telescope over the other, a bolt*l member passed centrally through the sections connecting the same together, a sleeve 8o clamp comprising a base 21 from which ex- Within the casing and Xed to the holt mem- In testimony whereof We aiix our signabei', a coiled retra-ctile spring surrounding tures in presence of two Witnesses.
the sleeve and having one end iiXed thereto HARRY R. HRST. and its opposite end projected exterorly of DANIEL UNGARO. the casing through the pei'ipheiy thereof, Witnesses:
and e cube holder having' a flexible cord C. S. ROBBINS,
Connected to the outer end of the spring, ELLERY ROBBINS.
