Be it known that I, LOREN R. PHILLIPS, a citizen of the -United States, residing at Fruita, in the county of Mesa and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful .Fire-Kindler, ofwhich the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in fire lrindlers, one object of the invention being the provision of a fire kindler composed of a plurality of inflammable tubes, placed in triangular shaped bundles and attached to and carried by a flexible, and inflammable sheet of material, whereby bundles of various sizes may be made by positioning the triangular bundles together, according to the grate surface of the stove.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangeinent'of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Fig. 3 is a. perspective view of a plurality of units of the fines connected to a flexible sheet of material. Fig. 4 is a view in perspective illustrating the use of two of the connected units when kindling a, fire. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of an igniting attachment insertible within the lower end of a flue or tube.
Referring to the drawings, the present kindler consists of a plurality of tubes of paper or other inflammable material, the inner edge of each one of which, as at 1, is bent at an angle so as to project within the hollow portion of the tube and provide the initial igniting portion of the tube, while a plurality of coils 2 are provided and terminate at the outer portion as at 3. The lower end of each of the tubes as at f is dipped in an inflammable material, such as melted resin or oils, or paraffin, and thus provides a means whereby the lower end of the initially bent end 1 may be primarily ignited.
As shown in Fig. 3, the flexible strip 5 of inflammable material is employed and the respective triangular bundles of units Specification of Letters latent.

In using the present invention, the inflammable laminated tubes are ignited at the lower ends of the strips 1 and are placed upon the grate ofthe stove, the fuel being placed around the respective tubes so as to confine the draft through the hollow portions of the tubes and upon the tubes so that the flame conducted through the air blasts of the tubes will ignite the fuel, and as the tubes are laminated and composed of a plurality of coils of the inflammable material, it is evident that they are strengthened to such a degree as to readily retain and support the fuel during the burning of the tubes. It has been found in practice that the upper ends of the tubes may be cut at various angles so as to prevent the packing of the fuel thereupon to close the flame blast drafts to the tubes, and also that various sizes of tubes may be used in conjunction with each other to assist in the proper retention of the fuel in spaced relation to permit of the flames passing between the lumps and properly igniting the same.
