To all whom it may concern ALBERT n. ivreeILL, or CHICAGO, iiininois, Assisnon, nr ,Masiva ASSIGNMENTS, 'ro WILLIAM s. FERRIsor ELKHARnINnIAiIn, ann annxannnan. LEITInoF ci-i1- cneorIILnINoIs.
.Be it known that I, A ILBERT E. MCGILL, a citizen of` the-United `States,.residing at Chicago, inthe county of Cookand` State oflllinois, have invented certainv newpand usefullmprovements in Folding /ehmleS,y `of Which the following is a specihcati'om.
.This invention .relates to improvements` in folding vehicles, and more particularly to lull` folding sleds, and the objectef` the `same is ,l to `provide an improveddevice of this charlCerdan-ce with the principles of this inven' i so acter which may be compactly folded and` which will be light,"simple and durable in construction and ecient vand .e'ective in operation. ,i
To thek attainmentof these ends andthe accomplishment of other new and useful objects as 'Will appear, the invention consists `inthe features of novelty, in the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts.v hereinafter more `fully described and claimed and shoivnin" the ac companying drawing illustrating1 an exeinplification4 of theinvention and in vvliich-`l Figure 1 is a side elevation of animproved device of vthis character constructed in action; Fig.` 2 'isa `rear elevationof Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of this improved sled. in itsfolded position; Fig. 4 is va detail sectional view on linea-4 of Fig. 1.l
Referring more particularly to the drawing and in` this exemplification vof the inven-A tion, thenumeral 10 designates a supporting member, such as a board orthe like,
i vvhichfcomprises the `body portionfgofthe sled. Securedto the ,lower face of the .sup-
one leaf of Which is secured to the spacing u block 11 and the other leaf" to the side bars 12. Suitable runners 14, preferablyof tubular construction and elliptical in crosssection are secured by their extremities 15-16 i to the side bars 12and are of such a height that `when lfolded under the supporting i member or body 10, the lower edges of the runners Will preferablyterminate short of i `nonnina AvnnIonE.

more clearly `F,
ybody portion 10l byfmeans of suitablebear- .y ings or clips 19, andthe extremities of the side arms 18 are deflected laterally as zit-T20 to yf rn`i hook shaped portions. Secured tov the btQm of the runners `14 are eye bolts 21,`and said eye bolts are so located withv relation to the side arms 18 of the brace that the hooked extremities on deflected yportion 20 will enter the eye of the bolt when" the runners are inan operative positicntoretain thelatt'er in said positiom Any`suitable number of these braces and eye bolts 21 may be provided `and may be located -`at' any point intermediate the extremities off the runners `111. d 4
A suitable seat supporting frame is provided `for the sled, and said frame prefer?` ably comprises spaced side arms 22, one extremity ofA each of which is pivotally connectedasfat 23 to the supporting member: or bodyportion 10 andthe other extremities are preferably connected by means of a cross! bar orl rod 2&1.I A flexible seat 25 is supported .by the side arms 22and` one end of `said seatis held in position by `means of the cross-bar or rod 24.
A' "suitable brace or support, preferably of a. U shaped construction,having'a body portion 2,6 and spaced side "arms 27,`is provided for supporting orY holding the, seatv frame lin, an eleva-ted or inclined' position. *One extremity of each of the side arms27 is pivotf' ally connected to onefof the side bars 22 of theseat frame, and the body portion 26 thereof is adapted to `be plaveedwithin a suitable'V space 28 formed betvveen'ithe rear extremity of the supporter body portion 10 and the side bars 12, so thatwvhen the supporting brace is in position, the rear end of y the seat frame will be held elevated to` support the bottom of the seat above the support or body portion 10. When it is desiredl to collapse or fold the sled from the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, the
body portion 26 of the support or brace is removed from the space 28,`and the side arms 22 of the frame moved about their 'points of pivotal support 23 toward the front of the sled a suflicient distance to permit the body portion 26 ofthe supporting brace to lbe passed between-the support or body portion and the side arms 22, after which the seat frame is lowered or folded toward the ,Tsup'port or body portion 10 and into the positio'n as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1.V
The arms 1 8 of the runner braces are detaohed from the eye bolts 21 and moved inte the position as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawing,4 after which the runners may be folded on their hinges 13 `under or against thelower face of thesupport or body portion 10, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3 ofthe drawing.
Itis tov be understood that the rear eX- tremities of the side bars 12 project for a lsuiiicient distance vbeyond the rear spacing blocks 11 to form a suitable support for the -body portion 26 vof the seat supporting prises a bar or rod 18a` which has a loose connection with one of the side arms 18 of each of the braces, preferably by means of suit- -ableveyes 18b formed on the bar or rod, and which engage suitable hooks or projections 18? on said arms. These hooks or projectionsare of such a configuration as to hold cidental displacement.
i In order that the invention might be fully understoodby those skilled'in the'` art, the
i 'i details of the foregoing embodiment thereof have been thus specifically described,`;but
' A'V'VliatI claim as vnew and desire to secure byLetters Patent is tion, runners for said body, rotatable laterally with respect to thebody, braces below the body portion adjacent the forward and rear ends of the runners for holding the latter in an operative position, and a connection .between the said braces also located below v Gopies of this patent may be obtained for the rod or bar 18a invposition and against ac-v l. 13,161 Jfolding v sled comprising av body `portionrunners for said body rotatable-i laterally with 'respect tothe body, spaced braces belowthe body portion for holding thei runners in an operative position, and a longitudinal member also below the body portion and disposed between the braces for simul taneously moving the latter into and out of operative position, saidk member having a loose engagement with the braces, and fold-y able withthe braces and runners toward theV body portion.
L1. A folding sled comprisingl a body por? tion, spacedy runners for said body rotatable laterally with respect to the body, braces below the body portion and spaced from each other longitudinally of the body for holding the runners in operative position, vand a link also below the body, said link connecting the braces for simultaneously moving the latter, said braces, runners, andv connections being foldable toward the body portion.4
5. Ar folding sled comprising body portion, spaced runners for said body `rotatable laterally with respect to the body, lbraces below the body portion and-spaced from each other longitudinally of the body for holding the runners inoperative positioinvand a link also below the body,`said link connecting the braces for simultaneously moving-'the latter,
said braces, runners and klink being foldable toward the body portion, and with the braces;
and linlr between the body and the runners.
