"IMPROVEMENT lN GRAIN-DRILLS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
LDANIEL E MGSHERRY, of Daytoinin the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Grain-Drills, of which the following is a specification: u
Mir-'invention relates to the manner of attaching y the receiver to the concave or-distributingcnp, and t0 the shaft of the distributer.
Figures l and 2 are a side elevation, showing thel parts involved in my invention.l t Like letters occurring' in the diierentgures refer to like parts. Y
A represents the bottom of the seed-box, towhich Ais attached the, concave B, which -inoloses the distribntingl'wheel, which is not shown,- as it is not involved' in this invention. v
S is a slide by which the ilow of seed is regulated.
G is 'a part fitted within the concave, and forms the upper part of the beari ng for the shaft H.
The receiver C is a hollow vessel composed of two halves inter-locked and` secured together by the rivet M. The upper part has fonrprojections, two on either side, and semicircular indentations, which, with the catchesD, one on' either side, embrace the shaft. The
catch is pivoted at o, and is held against .the shaft by the spiral spring E. The spring is heldin position by a projection from the catch andan orice withinthe lng 11.
n is a pro) ection to stppthe movement of catch. VThe projections with the'parts embracing lthe shaft. hold the receiver' in arigid position.
lo the lower endis attachedthe flexible tube which conveys the grain from the receiver to the hoes.
rlhe usual arrangement of the hoes is alternately forward and aft, and in the use of my invention the hoes, being brought on a line, I reverse the position of the receiver by det-aching it and turning the rear side tothe front. This secures a proper position to the flexible tube in its relation to the hoes.
A modified form of my invention is shown at iig. 2,
in which G is the receiver, constructed and operated similarly to thepart already described, the dierence being thatan indentationof the upper partembraces the shaft; and the receiver is suspended by a wire, K, or its equivalent, which passes through thesides of the receiver and ears cf the concave, the position yof the concave being shown by dotted lines. The projections on the upper part may be dispensed with. This form is also reversible.' i
What I clairn as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v The receiver C, having a catch, D, and spring, E, in relation to the shaft -H and concave B, substantially as described.
DANIEL E. MCSHERRY.
