J. HOUSE.
Broadcast Seeder.
No. 101,266. l Patented March 29, 1870.

l Letters-Patent No. 101,266, dated llfarch 29, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED SEEDER .AND HAYTEDDER y The Schedule referred to in thele Letters Patent and making part of the lame To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, JONAS HOUSE, of Howard,
in the county of Steuben and State of New York,
have invented a new and improved Combined Seeder and Hay-Tedder; and I dohereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse sectional elevation, and
Figure v2 is a plan view;
This invention consists in the combination of a seeder of peculiar construction with a tedder for spreading hay in such manner that one setof wheels may operate both devices, either separately or in conjunction, as may be desired.
In'the drawings- A isthe'seed-box, resting on the axle a.
b, the. shaft that drives the seed-slides, having a pinion, c, on one end, which gears with the annular rack d affixed to the inside of the wheel B, and a disk,
e, on its other end, which is connected by a rod, h, with the'seed-slide..
il, a lever having its rfulcrun'l in the front cross-bar k. of the supporting-frame, and v,being connected by'a bar, Z, with the sliding box my, through which the shaft b passes for the purpose vof Ithrowing the pinion c in or Out'of gear at pleasure, according as the seeder is to be used or not.
z is a band passing around the annular rack d, and
connecting the same with a pulley, n, on the shaft o, from which the tedder-lingers fr project.
The shaft o is supported at the rear extremities of bars s s, whose front ends are jointed to hooks t, projecting from the axle a in such manner' that the bars may be disconnectedfrom the axle when the tedder is not to be used, and the seeder is to be employed alone. f'
There are two seed-slides, u u, resting on the per-V forated bottom vof the seed-box.
The upper slide is furnished with fingers yz: yL', for crushing plaster.
The slides project out beyond one end of the box A, and by means of a set-screw passing through slots in their projecting parts, the upper one may be set so as to vary the size yof theorices innthe lower ones.
The bars s s rest on caster-wheels u.' w, by which they are prevented from dragging.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secnreby Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the wheels B, crown-wheel d, pinion c, seeding-device A u u c, with connecting-rod 7L, crank-wheel e, and shaftb, in combination with the shaft a and hooks t, fitted to receivevthe tetlder s o c* and driving-band z, as and for the purpose specified. Witnesses: JONAS HOUSE.
