BIB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 25,1914.
Application filed November 5, 1913. Serial No. 799,259.
T at] whom it may concern:
Be it. known that I, CAROL DUDLEY, a
citizen of the United States of America,
residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bibs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to bibs and has for its object the provision of a bib comprising a top portion and a lap portion, all made of flexible and waterproof material, and provided with side flaps adapted to hold the lap portion substantially at right angles to the body portion, whereby the bib is caused to conform to the shape of the child and to more efliciently retain food, dropped thereon.
lVhile it is intended. to provide a bib oi the type above outlined, the formation of a closed pocket is avoided for the reason that the closed pockets sometimes employed in conjunction with bibs are diflicult to clean and soon become foul and odorous.
The bib herein shown and described may be readily and thoroughly cleansed while at the same time it efficiently retains the small particles of food dropped thereon.
The figure shown in the accompanying drawing is a perspective view 0ft]. bib constructed in accordance with the invention.
lteterring to the drawing, the numeral 5 designates the body portion of the bib and 6 the lap portion thereof. These portions are provided with an edge binding of tape indicated at 7 and a binding 01 tape indicated at 8, the latter encircling a neck opening 9. The tape 8 is continued to form tie members 10 for the purpose of securing the bib in position.
So far the parts described are of the usual and well known construction.
small particles of In carrying out the invention, triangular pieces 11 are arranged at the juncture of the portions 5 and 6 of the bib and are provided with a binding of tape indicated at All of the material of the bib is of rubber cloth or like waterproof material and the same is true or the triangular pieces 11. These tri angular pieces serve as hereinbefore set forth, to maintain the portion 6 of the bib substantially at right angles to the portion 5. y
From the forcgoin g description, it will be seen that simple and eflicient means are herein provided for accomplishing the objects of. the invention, but while the elements shown and described are Well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended it to be understood that the in vent-ion is not llll'lltBCl to the precise construction set forth but includes within its purview such changes as may be made with in the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, What I claim is:
A device oi the character described comprising a body covering portion. and a lap covering portion and triangular connecting pieces lying in vertical planes and secured to the aforesaid portions of the bib at the juncture thereof, said triangular pieces serving to hold said portions of the bib at right angles to each other substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CAROL DUDLEY.
