To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN E. DUSANG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Larue, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Fence-Post, of which the following is a specificatie This invention relates to metal fence posts,-

one of its objects being to provide a post formed of sheet metal bent to such shape as to provide a post which is reinforced against transverse strains.

A further object is to provide a novel form of anchoring means for preventing the post from pulling out of the ground, said anchoring means being also formed of sheet metal and being applied readily to the post.

A further object is to provide improved means for fastening wires to the post.

With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appearas the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can. be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.`

In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.

Referring to the figures by characters of reference l designates a post formed of sheet metal and which is triangular in cross sectional contour, the blank of which the post is made being folded longitudinally to form the front ridge 2 and a rear reinforcing rib 3 extending throughout the length of the post, said rib being produced by flattening one corner portion of the post. The two longitudinal edges of the blank are fastened together by rivets 4: or in any other suitable manner and likewise serve to reinforce the post longitudinally, as will be apparent by referring to Fig. 3. In the ridge 2 are provided spaced openings 5 adapted to receive the longitudinal wires of the fence fabric, these wires being held to the post by a rod 6 insertible longitudinally within the post and between the inner face of the ridge 2 and the wires. In the drawings the wires have been indicated at WV.

The back wall of the post 1 is provided with an integral hook 7 adapted to engage the lower edge of a cross strip 8 from the upper edge of which extend forwardly projecting wings 9 adapted to lie close to but beyond the sides of the post. Secured to the strip 8 is an angle strip 10 having ears 11 riveted or otherwise attached to the strip 8, the angle strip 10 and strip S defining a space designed to receive the lower portion of the post 1. The two strips 8 and 10 coperate to form an anchor and this anchor may be reinforced by a metal strap 12 fitting about the post l, and riveted or otherwise secured to the anchor. When the anchor is applied to the post it is slipped over the end of the post and brought with the lower edge of the strip 8 in engagement with the hook 7, as shown in Fig. 2. By then embedding the anchor in the ground, it will be apparent that the post will be held against accidental withdrawal from the ground.

It will be seen that the device herein described can be cheaply manufactured and radily set up for use. Furthermore, the wires of a fence can be easily attached to or disconnected from the post and by having the openings 5 regularly spaced, fence fabrics of different mesh can be attached to the post without requiring posts of special construction.

What is claimed is A sheet metal anchor including a flat strip, spaced wings extending laterally from the top edge of the strip, a second strip secured to the lirst named strip and having an angular offset portion below the space between the flanges, the two strips defining a triangular post receiving space, a triangular post fitted snugly within said space,
