Description

mnd W SCHMIBT;
zzju'uvmi Window-.
Figzi :Patented Oct. 3, 187k STATES FRIEDRICH SCHMIDT AND WILLIAM SCHMIDT, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-RACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,536, dated October 3, 1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRIEDRICH SCHMIDT and VILLIAM SCHMIDT, both of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Window-Curtain Rack, and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing .making a part of this specification.
Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The nature of our invention relates to a rack for tightening and holding the cord passing over and operating the roller around which the curtain is wound. It consists of a plate slotted longitudin ally which is attached permanently to the window-frame, and is provided with a stud or projection which engages with teeth formed on one side of an arm sliding Ireelyin slot of the plate above mentioned.
The advantages of our invention consist in the ready means afforded for tightening the cord of an ordinary curtain fixture, as well as its simplicity, durability, and efliciency when in operation.
In construction our inventionis as follows: A is the base or plate attached to the frame of the window. B is an arm swinging freely on thepin b, the whole sliding vertically in the slot a oi' plate A. The arm B is serrated at one side, as shown in the drawing, the teeth engaging with the stud or projection a. The lower end of the arm B is provided with a knob which forms a convenient hole for locking or detaching the arm B and plate A. The roller C rotates on the pin b and carries the cord which operates the roller above. b, keeps the parts together.
From the above the operation of our device becomes obvious. When the cord is to be tightened the lever or arm Bis drawn out of line, as A seen in Fig. l, thereby detaching it from the stud c and on being depressed sufficiently to tighten the cord the said arm is moved so as to cause it to engage with the stud a, as shown in the same figure by the dotted lines. The teeth of arm B are made sufciently slanting to prevent its disengaging with the plate A. It will be observed that the workings parts of our improved rack is so constructed that it is not liable to get out of order, and will not slip or loosen while in use.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination ofthe movable serrated arm B with the stud c and permanent slotted plate A, when operating as and for the purpose set forth.
