To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CONRAD A. DIERIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention. has for its object to provide an eflicient and invisible holder attachable to a collar button for supporting or holding the knot of the necktie against shifting and to give the knot a full and attractive appearance.

Another object is the provision of a necktie holder embodying such novel features of construction that the holder may be secured in various adjusted positions with relation to the collar button.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 represents a front view of a collar, partly broken away, and necktie, illustrating the tie holder applied thereto, Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the holder removed and in normal expanded condition, Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the tie holder removed, illustrating the tie-receiving ring in compressed condition, and Fig. 4: represents a perspective side view of a modified type of the holder.

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a substantially circular split ring constructed of spring metal and having the free ends 6 overlapped.

The free ends of the legs 7 of a sub tam tially U-s haped clip 8 are permanently connected wlth the overlapped ends 6 of the spring ring and are connected at their opposite ends by the curved web portion 9. The clip 8 is preferably constructed of spring wire and the inherent tension thereofnormally retains the free ends of the legs 7, which are connected with the ends of the ring 5, in relatively close relation. The portions 'of the legs 7 disposed between the web 9 and the spring 5 are bent to provide a plurality of pairs of opposed collar button engaging members 10, which, when the clip is in normal position, as illustrated in Fig. 2, provides a plurality of eyes of less internal diameter than the diameter of the head of the collar button 11, Fig. 1, so as to insure against accidental disengagement of the tie holder therefrom.- 1

In use, the necktie 12 is applied to the collar 13 and tied in the usual manner and the free ends thereof are slipped through the ring 5 and the latter is moved upwardly under the outermost loop of the necktie knot 14,

as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. By applying pressure to the opposite sides of the ring 5 the legs 7 are spread apart, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3, and in this position the head 11 is gripped between the legs and when the ring is released the tension thereof moves the legs 7 together, thereby causing one pair of spring members 10 to firmly grip the shank of the collar button 11 and thus secure the holder in position thereon. It will be understood that by engaging the collar button shank with any one of the several curved members 10 the ring 5 may be adjusted at any desired position with relationto the collar button.

In the modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 4, the numeral 15 indicates a split spring ring having the free ends of a substantially U-shaped clip 16 connected with the endstliereof and secured centrally to a shank 17, having an angular lower end 18, which, when t e holder 1s applied to the necktie, projects below the loop 14L of the tie knot and exposes a jewel or other ornament 19 attached to the free end thereof.

What I claim is: i

1. A tie holder including a split necktiereceiving ring having the free ends overlapped, and means carried by the overlapped ends of said ring for securing the latter in position upon a collar button.

2. A tie holder comprising a split tie-reoeiving ring having the free ends overlapped, and a substantially U-shaped collar button engaging clip carried by the free ends of said ring.
