Description

GARMENT SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED nov.18,1916.
. URSTADT.
Patented May 29, 1917.
MQ, @ff
JOHN GEORGE URSTAI'DT, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
GARMENT-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led November 18, 1916. Serial No. 132,142.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN GEORGE URSTADT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in garment supports.
In carrying out the invention it is my purpose to produce a garment support designed for mens wear wherein the same may be easily and quickly connected with the waistband of the trousers and which is adapted to engage with a suitable strap upon the inner garment or drawers of the wearer and which is also adapted to engage with the belt, so that the said belt and inner garment will be retained in proper position with relation to the trousers of the wearer.
It is a further object of the invention to produce a device of this character which is constructed of a single strip of resilient material having its ends so bent as to effectively engage with the strap of the inner garment, to also engage with the waistband of the trousers and which is provided with tongues that frictionally insure the proper engagement of a removable belt with the trousers.
With the above and other objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement Aof part-s set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the application of the improvement, the device being illustrated as applied to the strap upon the inner garment, Fig. 2 is a perspective view Vlooking toward one of the ends of the device,
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the construction illustrated in Fig. 2,
Fig. 4 is an elevation illustrating the manner in which the device is arranged upon the outer garment.
Preferably but not necessarily, and as illustrated in Fig. 4 of the drawing, the improvement is secured to the outer garment 1 by forming the said outer garment with a pocket, but it is here to be stated that the device which is constructed of resilient material may embody suflicient-tension as to be self-sustaining upon the garment.
The improvement, as disclosed by the drawing, is constructed from a single strand of suitable wire and comprises a body por-- tion 2, which, as illustrated in Fig. 4, is arranged within the mentioned pocket, the samefor convenience being designated by the numeral 3. The body l, at the ends thereof, is bent upon itself to provide a substantially U-shaped loop 4, and the lower or connecting member for the arms of this loop are adapted to receive the threads 5 which serve additionally to secure the said device to the outer garment 1. The outer arm 6 of the loop 4 is bent upon itself to provide a tongue 7 which is also U-shaped and which is arranged in a plane with the loop 4 but which may be, if desired, arranged at a slight inclination to the said loop 4. The outer member provided by the tongue 7 and which, for distinction, is indicated by the numeral 8 is bent upon itself, at an angle, approximately forty-five degrees with respect to the plane of the tongue 7 forming the inner member 9 of a clip 10. The clip 10 is also U-shaped in side elevation, and the outer arm 1l thereof has its end formed with a head or enlargement 12.
" The clip 12 is adapted to have frictionally engaged between the arms of the same a Patented May 29, 1917.
belt 18, while disposed to be engaged beA tween the arms or legs of the loop 4 and to be also engaged by the inner arm 8 of the tongue is a strap or band 4 that is secured to the inner garment or trousers 15.
The strap 14 is centrally secured to the inner garment l5 as indicated by the numeral 16 and the ends of the said strap are likewise secured to the inner garment, as indicated by the numeral 17 From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the simplicity of the device, as well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
l Having thus describedthe invention, what I claim is: I
In a device for the purpose set forth, a
member constructed of resilient material having its ends bont to providesubstantay U-shaped loops which are disposed at right angle to the body the outer ond membos of the said loops bemg beniI upon themsoves 5 to provide U-sha-ped tongues disposed in a piane 'with the oops, vshe outer membols of the said tongues being bent upon 'themselves
