HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 19. 1916- Patented July 11, 1916.
UNITE S CHARLES J. WILLIAMS, JR., OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, ASSIGNOR T0 L. MOORE DRY KILN 00., OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA, A CORPORATION OF FLORIDA.
HANGER.
7 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 1916.
Application filed February 19, 1916. Serial No. 79,403.
at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in hangers, the object .being to provide a hanger for the attachment of the crossbraces in the track construction for drykilns.
My presen invention consists in a castmetal hanger having a hole through it, so that it will pass over the end'of the stand ard post or column, which, as a general rule, is about two and one-half inches in diameter. 'One side of the hanger has a flat bearing to receive the channel-iron brace, with cavities therein to aline it as much as possible, and provided with a flange at the upper and lower edge to embrace the edges of the channel-iron, with means for securing the hanger to the column and for bolting the channel-iron to the hanger.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hanger; Fig. 2 is a vertical section; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section.
A, represents the faceplate of the hanger and 1 is the sleeve which fits and is passed over one end of the column or post 2, and when adjusted to the right horizontal position is locked in place by the set-screw 3. On one side the face-plate A is formed Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents integral with the sleeve, the ends being provided with bolt-holes 4:, 4:, to receive the bolts 5, 5, which fasten the channel-iron brace 6 thereto. Upper and lower horizontal flanges 7 7, embrace the upper and lower edges of the channel-iron and conare formed in the face-plate to al ine the weight of the hanger, and save material, while at the same time leaving a central web 9, which gives the required'strength at that point in a line with the bolt-holes.
A hanger of this sort is easily cast in a single piece. It is light and strong, and when once on the column or post will not become removed therefrom, although it can be easily and quickly adjusted'up and down by simply loosening the set-screw, and raising and lowering the channel-iron or other brace that is bolted to it.
I claim:
A hanger comprising a sleeve or hub, a face plate integral therewith having bolt holes at its ends and flanges at its edges, the sleeve having a threaded hole and a screw which turns therein to hold the sleeve or hub in place, in connection with a brace the edges of which the flanges embrace, said brace having holes adapted to register with the holes in the face plate, and means passing through said holes for holding the face plate and brace together.
fine the latter therebetween. Cavities 8, 8,
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
