Specification or Letters Patent.
latented June 2G, MMG..
Application filed. November 17, 1915. eral No. 61,919.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, Enno linsnnr Coon, a citizen of the United States of America, and a. resident of North Chicago, in the county of Lake, State of illinois, have invented certain new and useiul improvements in rlrables, oi' which the following is a specification.
rthis invention relates to means for connecting the part-s of a table together, and has tor its object to provide a structural formation and combination or' parts, whereby an assemblage of the under frame and supporting legs of a table is attained Ain an economical, ready and substantial manner, all as will hereinafter more ifully appear.
ln the accon'ipanying drawings: Figure l, is a plan view oi a table iframe constructed in accordance with the present 1 invention. Fig. 2, is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3, is detail horizontal section on line en -m, Fig. 2. Fig. e, is a detail perspective view oit the joint forming parts in detached relation to each other.
rimilar reference numerals indicate like parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings, l designates the supporting legs of the table structure, preferably three in number, arranged in spaced relation to a common center, and
havin# reversely curved form substantially as shown. y
2 designates a. connecting spidersecured to the series of legs l, intermediate their height` to prov'dc a bracing connection between the saine as usual in the present type of tables.
designates the top member of the table traine, preferably of the annual form shown, and 'which in the present improvement is termed by a plurality of sections preferably of a counterpart formation.
L designates vertically spaced inturned flanges or lugs on the respective ends of the aforesaid sections of the top member 3, adapted for locking engagement with the hereinafter described tie plate.
5 designates vertically as well as horizontally spaced lugs on the inner face and at the upper end of each table leg l, and adapted to act as spacing abutments for the abo-ve described end flanges or lugs e of the sections of the top member 3.
6 designates a bolt oriiice formed in the upper end of each table leg l, and disposed centrally with relation to the lugs 5 aforesaid, as illustrated more particularly in Fig.
Ll. ln the preferred formation of the table legs, each orifice 6 is associated with a central and vertical reinforcing rib 7, with a view to strength and lightness in the leg structure.
S designates a plurality of tie plates, each of which is provided with a central bolt oritice 9, and with a pair of vertical marginal flanges l0, adapted to interlock with the K marginal lugs e of the sections of the top member 3 aforesaid.
ll designates lateral lugs centrally associated with the marginal 'flanges 10 of the tie plate 9, and adapted to occupy the space between the before described lugs 4 and 5, oi' the table leg 1 and top member 3, to prevent independent vertical movement between the parts after assemblage.
l2 designates a series of fastening screws, or bolts passing through the above described members or' the table frame, to clamp and hold the same together.
Having thus fully described my Said invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. ln a table structure, the combination of a leg formed at its upper end with horizontally spaced abutment lugs, a top member formed in sections, each section having vertically spaced inturned lugs at its ends, a tie plate formed with marginal `flanges adapted for engagement with the inturned lugs of said sections and with lateral lugs for engagement in the spacings between said inturned lugs, and means for clamping the parts together, substantially as set forth.
ln a table structure, the combination of al leg termed at its upper end with horizontally spaced abutment lugs, a top member formed in sections, each section having vertically spaced inturned lugs at its ends, a tie plate formed with marginal flanges adapted for engagement with the aforesaid inturned lugs of said sections and with lateral lugs for engagement in the spaoings between said inturned lugs, and a screw-bolt passing through and clamping the parts together, substantially as set forth.
3. ln a table structure, the combination of a leg 'formed at its upper end with horizontally and vertically spaced abutment lugs, a top member formed in sections, each section having vertically spaced lugs at its ends, a tie plate formed with marginal ilanges adapted for engagement with the in.-
the'lugs of said sections and said leg, and means 'for clamping the parts together, sub- Y stantially asset forth.
4. In t table structure, the combintion of a leg formeel- :Lt its upper end with horizonitally and vertically spaced abutment lugs, a.
top member formed in sections, each section v ie having vertically spaced lugs at its ends, a
