Description
JAMES P. SINCLAER.
Improvement in Mill-Pick Holders.
Patented Sep. 5.187].
' ewes I UNITED STATES JAMES P. SINCLAIR, OF MOTTVILLE, NEIV YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN MILL-PICK HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,753, dated September 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JAMES P. SINCLAIR, of Mottville, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mill Iick Holder; and I do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a front view of my improved millpick holder. Fig. 2 is aside view of the same, partly in section, through the line a; r, Fig. 1, to show the construction.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. v
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved holder for millacks, which shall be so constructed as to adjust itself snugly to the pick, whatever may be its bevel, and which will hold the pick firmly and steadily and will allow the pick to be conveniently detached when desired; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the holder, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the head of the holder, which is a short, hollow, flattened cylindeigmade with solid ends. In the flattened sides of the head A, directly'opposite each other, are formed two slots, c a,
the slot c in the forward side being made considerably wider than the other or rear slot a B are two semicircular blocks, which are placed in the semicircular cavities in the head A, one upon each side of the slots a (t the larger slot ((1 being made of such a size that the said blocks B may be readily passed in and out through it. Upon one of the narrow sides of the head A is formed, or to it is rigidly and firmly attached, a socket, (J, to receive the handle D. E is the pick, which is inserted through the slots (0 a between the two blocks B, which adjust themselves to the bevel of the upper part of the pick E, whatever that bevel may be.
The flat sides or faces of the semicircular blocks B may be faced with leather or other suitable material, to enable them to fit more snugly to the pick E.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The short, hollow, flattened, and slotted cylindrical head A, provided with a socket, C,to receive a handle, D, and the semicylindrical blocks B, whether faced or not, in combination with each other, to adapt them to receive and hold a pick, E, substantially as herein shown and described.
