Description
G. D. DUNHAM. HOLDER PoR DIAMONDS.
Patented Mar. 22, 1870.
lll/lig To all whom it may concern.:
"dai-'ted t-aies @anni ltima,
Leners Patna No.1oi,111, lated March. 22, 1870.
IMPovDD HOLDER PoR DIAMONDS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same.
Be it known that -I, GERMAN D. DUNHAM, of Chi'- I cago, in the county of Cook and in the State of Illinois,v
have invented' certain new and useful Improvements in Diurnoml-Holders; and dohereby declare that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings and to the lettersof reference marked thereon mak- -ing a. part of this specication.
The nature oi my invention consists in the coustruction' and arrangement of a glaziers pocket-diamond for cutting glass, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention apperiains to make and use the same, I will non proceed to describe lits construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View, and v Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of my pocket-diamond.
Arepreseuts the holder, which consists of a tube of The handle B is'of the peculiar construction shown in iig. 1 whereby it is held more naturally between the iingersand does not spread the first and second fingers out of their natural position.
In' the outer end of the holder A is inserted a cyliudiical-shapcd metal piece, C, from which the key D projects, and at the outer end of said key is a pin, a, upon which the block E is attached.
This block E contains the diamond i, as seen .in the drawing. l
The diamond in the block E, and vthe key D for vbreaking the glass, it will be seen can be used without changing the position of' .the instrument.
The holder A is very simple and plain; it contains no machinery to get out of order, and has still all' thestren'gth necessary.
XVhen the diamond is not in use, the block E and key D can be' inserted in the holder A,- topreserve it from injury, and can thus he carried yaboutl in the pocket.
Having thus fully described my invention,
WVhat'I claim as new, and desire to secure-by'Letters Patent, is-
The herein-described diamond-holder,consisting of the handle B, with socket A, and the reversible parts .E D C, the latter piece having a circumferential shoulder, )all constructed and used substantially asset forth. suitable dimensions, in one end of which the handle J B isrmly secured.
In testimonythat I claim lthe foregoing, I have hereunto set 'my hand this 31st day of January, 1870.
' G. D. DUNHAM.
