Description

Ni. D. BRUMM GARMLNY SUPPOHW;
APPLlCA'I'QN 'wd May 1G, NMS.
siii/Hummm UNITED STATES PATENT oEEICE.
MOSES D. BROWN. OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Application filed August 21, 1912.
le it known that l. Mosi-:s l). luows. a eitixen ol' the l'niteil States. residing :it Bal timore. A*tate el' Maryland. have invented new and useful improvements in Garment- Supporters. o1' whieh the following is a. speeilieation.
'l`he inreutiou relates to apparel and has l'or an objeel to provide a garment supporter.
'l`he invention resides in a supporter adaptedy more partieularly for ilse. in sup` porting hose surh as are worn b men and liuown as soelis.
'i'lie supporter inehules an artiele having a pluralit)r ol` adjustments and three points ol eonneet'ion with the soebY in a manner whieh ill prevent the soelt from sagging in the bai-li aiul whieh will also serre to relieve the tension or 11 ress on the ealll ol' the leg.
ln the further lisrlosure ol' the invention rel'ereuee ia to be bad to the aeeoinpaining lrai'i'ings eonslitutiug a partf of'this speri-- lieation. in whirb similar eharaeters oll rel.- erenee denote rorreslmnding parts in all the riews. and in whirb:
Figure l is :i perspeetire riew oli the drA rire showing the saine in applied position: Fig. 2 is a plan View olI the deriee showing the `same iu open or unfolded position: and Fig. l is a rertieal longitudinal 'seetional View taken on the line 1*1 in Fig. i.
llelerring more lmrtieularl)V to the views. use is made ol' a plurality o1' similar supporting pads ll). 1l and 1;. the said pads. being eaeh prel'erabl)v formed ol' eloth-like material haring a triangular shape and pro` titled willi pert'orations l for the purpose ol' ventilation.
.\n elastie strap H has eonneetion `with one ot' the ends oll the supporting pad 1t) anilis passed through a suitable linf'ltle 15. the said strap being then passed thiough a stirrup lti seeured to an end o1' the support.- ing.r pail il. the tree end of the strap being then engaged with a medial portion ot' the buelile 1.3. thus` eonnorting the pads and l1. the bueltle 'lb being preferably ol' a trie,- tion type so that by sliding the bueltle on the 'strap 11. the distanee between the supporting pads 10 and 11 can be increased or decreased to the eornenieneev of the wearer as will be readilfT understood by referring to the views. An elastic strap 17 similar to Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1916.
sei-iai No. 716.256.
the elastie strap 1t is eonnertetl to the snpporting pail 1; and is passed through a buelale 1h'. similar "io the bueltle 15. after whieh the said strap 1T is passed through a stirrup 111. similar to the stirrup 11'. and eured to another end ot' the supporting pad l1. the l'ree end ol' the said elastie strap 1T being then engaged with a medial portion of the bui-hte 1S. thus proriding an atlliusb ment between the supporting pads 11 and 12 ot' a eonstrueiion similar to the ailju;tment between the supporting pads il) and 11. lt will now be seen that for the supporting pads 1U. 11 and 1; a plurality ot adjustments are proriileil aml in order to seeure the de\ iee on the limb ot the wearer an attaehiug member :21.1 is' seeured to the supporting pail 1'. and adapted for remoi-` able eonueetion with a seeuring member 21 seeured to the supporting pail ll). the menlioned altarhiug member 't and seeuring member )1 eonstituting a Isuitable elasp :Z2 of an)v well known type. lilaeh ot the. supporting pads 10. 11 and ll have mounted thereon a gripping member '2li adapted for gripping engagement', with the upper edge ol' a soek 'il as shown in Fig. 1. the nientioned gripping members being ot an)7 preferred type and the-said supporting pads 1t)` 1l and 1'. being arranged in sui-h a manner that the soeli will be gripped by the gripping members l at the back and at two plaees in the trout. thus preventing any sagging ot' the soelc on the limb of the wearer. it being l'urther seen that. by providing the adjusting means mentioned heretofore and eomprising the elastic Straps 1t and l? haring the buekles and 1S thereon` the distanee. between the supportingr pads 10. '11 and 1; ean be eonvenientl \'a rieil in order to seeure a proper adjustment ol' the artiele upon the limb of the wearer.
Although l am aware` that garment supA porters l'or use in supporting socks have been used heretofore. I find that the mentioned supporters do not properly secure the soel; and prevent the saine from sagging in riew ol' the faet that the supporters simply grip the soek in one or two places and usually at the, trout of the sock. thus Causing the. rear ot the soek to sag. In my device, however` I provide three points ot connection with the sock and it. should be noted that in applying the device to the leg to sup- -back of die leg, thus forming n Cushing.:
which, il their with Athe, supporting wi tion of th interni flint@ pail, provides a ilsvico which takes the usual strain oil the reni' pnrzion of leg :unl algo pieve s tlw gni ier from nailing into the leg :is is the case willi the garters non' generally' in useu The gnrters non generally used which have only one or tno points 0l Connection with the lios@ not only permit the hose lo SAQ; at thirear but also clit into the ieg in View of tin fact that the exilim pull on, th@ {1in-tor i.: l the single point of connection of the ,e'nrir with the lios?. l?, will thus lin rciiililv un derstooil that when tlii'ec'poinh of' connyrtion with the. lios@ are prnviilod. the pull on the garter is equally l` istrilinteil :1mi lliure- 'l'ore the garter will livJ fiat against the lng and will not ont inw the saine, while :it the same time any sagging of the hose at lie rear is prevented.
