The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and easily manipulated sales book having a support divided into two parts with a flexible connection between them, a main pad of original and duplicate to triplicate sales sheets, and a second pad, the two .being' mounted upon the difi'erent parts of the support and the arrangement being such that, by tilting one part of the support relative to another, one of the used, sheets may be withdrawn from between the leaves of the main pad and dropped .into place under it, so that when the support is brought backto alinement the sheet 1s filed.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1 denotes a rear cover of a sales book holder having connected therewith at one side a front cover 2 by means of a flexible connection 3, whereby the book may be folded into compact form and conveniently carried. The cover 2 is provided with pockets 4 at the top and bottom, into which the edges of a record card or detached sheets may be placed.

The rear cover 1 is divided into two parts, the larger or main part being denoted by the numeral 1, While a smaller part 5 is connected therewith along one side edge by means of a hinge or flexible connection 6. The cover is preferablymade of sheet metal or other stiff material and covered with leather. In triplicate books the support for the originaland duplicate pad and the support for the triplicate pad were, in general,

heretofore made in two parts of substantially the same size as the pads which they held, and when in use had a normal superimposed position. Such a heavy and cumbersome construction resulted in high cost of manufacture, the reduction of which is one of the objects of this invention. This construction also prevents the pad of orig inal leaves from swinging entirely around under the holder. V

The member 5 has formed, preferably integrally therewith, an abutment 7 which is turned inwardly at the top 8. .This abutment not only acts as a secure means for holding the pad 9, but also. provides a more convenient tip-up means for. swinging the pad 9 upwardlyaway from the cover 1, as shown in Fig. 3, than to use the part. 5 alone.

The ad 9 preferably comprises a con? .tinuous y folded sheet forming a plurality of sets of original and duplicate leaves 10 and 11, respectively. The leaves are perforated at each end 12 to permit them being other and also along separated from each their side edge 13, whereby they may be separated from the stub'of the pad.

A double faced carbon sheet 15 is bound with the leaves of the pad and extends over substantially their entire surface. The pad 9 is provided with a binding strip 16, shown more clearly in Fig.3, between which and the bottom leaf of the pad is inserted a retaining means 17 directly connected with the abutment 7, whereby the pad may be' easily inserted or removed.

To the edge of-the cover 1, adjacent the hinge 6, is secured a second abutment or flange 18 provided with holding means 19 for securing a pad of triplicate leaves20 in a suitable manner. I

A convenient method ofbperating a book of. this character is substantially as follows: The pads, after being inserted inthe holder on the flat support formed by the parts 1 and 5, are positioned substantially as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the main portion of the pad 20 turned back over the cover 2, the bottom leaf-being inserted over the car- Having described bon ,sheet 15, and both placed between the original and duplicate leaves 10 and 11. By writing upon the original leaf 10 the im pression will be transmitted to the reverse side of the triplicate leaf 21 and the face of the duplicate leaf 11. Afterthe transaction has been recorded the pad 9 is swung upward, as shown in Fig. 3, by pressing down with the thumb on the flange 7 The back 16 of the pad 9 acts as a leverabout the hinge'6 as a fulcrum. The device is very simple to manipulate, as the book'is usually held in the-left hand with the thumb on the flange 7 and the little finger holding the leaves of the pad 20 in place. This action permits the sheet 21 to be drawn out from between the original'and duplicate" leaves, whence it falls upon the cover 1, as shown by the position of the leaves 22, Fig. 3. A complete bound set of transactions is in this manner .kept on file for future reference. The original and duplicate set of leaves are then torn from the pad 9and disposed of as desired. The next original leaf is turned back and-the carbon sheet placed over the duplicate leaf and the next triplicate leaf laid over the carbon sheet, after which the original leaf is swung to the position shown in Fig. 1. The book is then ready for further transactions. If, however, the operator is through for the day, the cover2 with the pad 20 may be swung over on top of the pad 9.

It will thus be seen that this invention provides a light and compact device, easily carried about in ones pocket, accomplishing, among others, all of the advantages and objects above set forth.

As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense. a

7 my invention, whatI claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a manifolding sales book, a support, a'pad of original and duplicate leaves se cured to one edge of the support, thepad being formed from a continuously folded web, the leaves of which are bound together along one side edge, a triplicate pad secured adjacent to another edge of the support, and a carbon sheet associated'with one of the pads.

2. In a manifolding sales book, in combination, a support comprising a pair of parts and a flexible connection between them, a -pad of continuously folded zigzag leaves secured along an edge at right angles to its folds to one of said parts, said leaves extending when in operative position over the other of said parts, a second pad of leaves secured to the second part, a leaf of said second pad extending when in operative position over'a leaf of the first pad and over the second part, and a double-faced carbon sheet arranged when in operative position betweenleaves from each pad, to produce asupport and moved therewith when it is tipped, a second pad mounted upon the other part of-the support 'in position to coiiperate with the first pad, and a double-faced carbon sheet connected to one of the pads; the arrangement being such that a sheet ofthe second pad may be disposed upon the carbon sheet, and when the parts of the support are relatively tipped the sheet of the second pad will be withdrawn and disposed between the main pad and the support.

A, In a manifolding sales book, in combination, a support divided into two parts, one of which is flexibly connected to the other and also to a cover, flanges on each part of the support, a main pad of original and duplicate leaves carried by the flangeupon one part of the support, a second pad of leaves carried by the flange upon the other part of the support, and a double-faced carbon sheet bound with the main pad; the arrangement being such that a leaf of the sec ond pad may be disposed upon the carbon sheet, and one part of the support may be tipped relative to the other to lift the main pad and thus withdraw the said leaf and permit it to be disposed below the main pad.

5. In a manifolding sales book, a support madein two parts, a flexible connection between them, a main pad formed from a continuous web folded zigzag and secured to one, part' Oi'the support, a second pad of leaves secured to the other part of the supportsothat a leaf thereof may overlie the first pad; and a double-faced carbon sheet associated with one of the pads, the tipping of one part of the support relative to the other acting to withdraw the leaf of the second pad; as described. v
