lorries-1 ALBERT ROMIHGER, 0F CAPAY, CALIFORNIA.
ii .11 Waldo;
Application filed Gctober 18, 1915.
To aZZ wflom it may concern 1 Be it amen that l, ALBERT licensees, a citizen of the United States, residing at Capay, in the county of Yolo, State of California, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Power-Increasing Devices for Tractoclliotors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description. or the some, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which for a part of this application.
This invention relates to an attachment for the motors of mrtor vehicles, especially those used in connection with tractors havingspeed governors, for maintaininga maximum speed of the motors under ordinary circumstances, the obiect of the invention being to produce an attachment for the control lever of the throttle of the motor wh ereby, when required, the speed power on the following specification and claims.
in the drawings similar characters or relerence indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is an outline view of a motor showing my improved attachment thereon. Fig. 2 is an end view of my improved tachment. I
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawir the numeral 1 designates the steering post of vehicle, the numeral 2 the throttle control rod thereon operating the linger member 3 which linger member is connected by a. link 4 with my improved attachment 5 which consists primarily of a bell crank pivotally mounted at 5 and having a pair of projecting arms 8 and 10 spaced. apart. The arm 8. terminates in an eye which fits over the throttle lever 6 of the carburetor *5" and the member 10 terminates in abifurcated Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. ll, 1916.. Serial No. 56,561.
yoke which. straddles the throttle lever 6, the members 8 and 10 being spaced apart as noted. A collar 9 is secured by a setscrew or other suitable means to the throttle lever 6 between the members 8 and 10. The lever 6 projects through the end of the governor lever 15 and is provided with a collar 12 and with a spring 13 interposed between the governor lever 15 andcollar 12. $5 The governor lever 15 is connected by the rod 16 with the governor 1? in the usual manner. l l hen the motor is started and the throttle lever advanced, it moves the member 8 away from the collar 9 which allows the throttle to open up. to any desired degree under the impetus of the governor. When the limit of speed of the motor, as controlled by the governor is reached, then the action of the member 8 would be of no avail, and the motor would be held at its iii-zed speed by the governor unless something was provided for forcing" the governor. and opening the throttle, and this I accomplish by means of the member 10 which can moved against the collar 9 to force the 6 ahead and pull on the lever 15 and Force the governor 1'7 to allow of a greater speed of the motor due to the greater open' p sition of the carburetor 7.
in. the now commonly used control means for throttles, the bell crank 5 is provided with one arm against which a. collar acts as the carbureter opens and when... the one arm has reached the limit of movement, as determined by the speed of the motor, LrBI'Q is no way of forcing the same to get ater speed or power in emergencies and it provide for is bills emergency use which I by the use of the arm 10.
From the foregoing description it can rea lily be seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfils the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such devia-- tions from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i
1. A device of the character described comprising the combination with the throttle lever of a carburetor and a governor connected with the throttle lever, of a stop member onthe lever, a bell crank pivotally mounted independently of the lever and having a pair of arms, one projecting on each side of said stop member. in spaced relati-on, and means for operating the bell crank, as described.
2. A device of the character described comprising the combination with the throttle lever of a carbureter arranged to move under spring pressure and a governor "connected with the throttle lever, of two members operable by a common lever, one member ar-.
ranged to retard the movement of the rod under the spring pressure, and the other arranged to force such movement, as described. 0
lntestimonyz whereof I efiix my signatifre in presence of two witnesses.
' ALBERT ROMINGER.
