W. GTISTAFSON, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
KNOCKDOWN BOX.
' To all whom z'tmay concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT W. Guern- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New J 'ersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to knockdown boxes and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
.An object of the invention is to provide abox of simple and durable structure especially adapted to be used for holding crackers, small cakes and the like, the parts of the box being so connected together that they may be disjointed and packed in small compass when desired.
With the. above object in view the box includes a bottom panel having up-standing flanges at its longitudinal edges and provided at its ends with inwardly disposed folds. Side panels are provided at their ends with inwardly disposed folds adapted to engage folds provided at the side edges of end panels which in turn are provided at their lower ends with folds adapted to engage under the folds provided at the ends ofthe bottom panel.
In the accompanying drawing ;Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box, showing the parts thereof set up. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same. Fig. 3
. is a perspective View of the bottom panel of the box. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one ofthe side panels of the box. Fig. 5 is a similar yiew of one of the end panels of the box. A
The box includes a bottom panel 1 which is provided along its longitudinal edges with up-standing flanges 2, and having at its ends and above its upper sides inwardly disposed folds3. The box structure also includes en'd panels 4 provided at their lower edges with folds 5, the lower portionsof which are adapted to engage under the folds 3 provided at the ends of the bottom panel l'in a manner as best shown in Fig.9 of the drawing. The end panels 4 are provided at their side edges with folds 6 which are disposed in the corner portions of the box when the artsare set up in the position as shown inig. 1 of the drawing. The box structure Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 5, 1915. Serial No. 32,355.
Patented Mar. 28', 1916.
also includes side panels 7 provided at their endsv with inwardly-disposed folds 8 adapted to engage in the folds 6 of the side edges of the end panels 4 when the parts of the box arein set upposition. I
To assemble "the parts the folds 5 of the end panels 4 are engaged with the folds 3 at the ends of the bottom panel 1 and when so engaged the end panels 4 are disposed approximately ata right angle to the plane in which the bottom panel 1 lies. The side panels 7 are then slipped down along the side edges of the end panels 4 whereby the The material of which the panels are composed is preferably metal, such as tin or the like, although" any kind of material may be used in the box structure. As shown in the drawing, the panels are shown closed, but it is to be understood that these panels may be provided with openings, and if desired, transparencies may be placed over the openings, whereby the contents of the box may be viewed from theexterior and at the same time the contents are rotected against external dust and other oreign matter. I
From the above description taken in con junction with the accompanying drawing, it willbe seen that abox of simple design is provided and that the box may be economically manufactured, and when the parts are set up the contents of the box are practically hermetically sealed, therefore the box is especially adapted for containing eatable having at their lower edges folds adapted to engage in the folds at the ends of the bottom panel, said end panels being provided along their side edges withfolds, the last men'- folds 8 of the side panels 7 are engaged withv ends inwardly disposed folds, end panels tioned folds occupying the corner portions of the box when the parts are set up, side panels provided at their ends with folds In testimon whereof I afix my signature agalfited t3 engage the dfolxgls of the1 sidel edges in presence 0 two witnesses.
